Oklahoma Winstar Casinos - Gas Station - Pics Coming Soon

Few friends of mine came down yesterday from Houston. We decided to take a road trip to Winstar Casino. Well, if anyone has ever drove to Winstar, there is only 1 gas station there at that exit. I totally forgot the name of that gas station, but there is no way you cannot miss that gas station.

Anyways, we stopped there to get some drinks and I needed to use the restroom. I was carrying at this time and right when I walked up to the door I saw a ghost buster sign, which was a non-compliance to CHL holder. So, I walked right in and to my suprise I see a small casino slot machine room right in the middle inside the gas station. I saw 5 armed casino security guards and a couple of employees. At this time I was crapping in my pants and walked straight out real fast and try to avoid any attention. I needed to pee really bad, so I got back to the car and disarm myself and went inside to use the restroom.

I took a picture of the ghost buster sign and I will upload it here later when I get home from work.

Has anything like this happen to any of ya'll before?

Like what? I am afraid I am missing the issue. Were you surpsised that the gas station allowed betting, so your carry there was illegal? Do you know if ghost buster signs legally prohibit carry in OK?

I believe that is Indian Land (Federal). I would not carry there even if it was just a ghostbuster sign. I went to a concert there and the security guy I talked to told me those tribe policeman have federal authority just like the FBI. If you are even caught with alcohol on the indian property it is a federal offense. First concert I have ever attended since 1976 where there was no drinking or smoking. If they are that strict I would not want to chance carrying because of a non-compliant sign. I'm sure others know more about this than I do and I'm anxious to see what they say.

I know that Oklahoma bans carry at places like horse and dog tracks. I believe Parimutuel betting is banned from carry specifically in OK law; not sure about casinos though.

I'd love to know what OK law says about signage, but I assumed it's like Arizona, where any "reasonable request" by property owners must be honored.

An interesting point about Indian land. Not sure about it being federal. The only real experience I have with that was when I lived in Arizona, and different tribes will either honor or not honor carry permits. Mostly it was never a problem as long as you're on main roads, but some tribes can get really touchy about armed carry of "non indians" on their land. Most major tribes would honor it, but it's ALWAYS wise to check with them beforehand.

Yeah.

I'm going to look into Oklahoma on concealed carry law tonight. I usually go to Winstar about 5 times a year.

I go to Oklahoma City several times a year on business. I have stopped at that gas station before but I just pay at the pump and have never gone inside. I am always carrying so I think I will just find another station to buy gas.

Isn't it generally a good idea to check those things out before the trip?

Maybe for once I beat TXi to posting the relevant law.

I don't see anything that says gas stations or places where slot machines are set up, or for that matter anything about posting, but there may be sections I haven't seen.

Not sure of the name, but it is a Valero station/truck stop. It is located at Thackerville, OK. Whenever we go to Winstar, we take the truck so I can fill up both tanks with the cheap price diesel they sell there.

According to Title 21 Section 1290.22, business owners can restrict people from carrying in their establishments, but not restrict you from keeping one in your car or in the parking lot.

From my reading, any reasonable attempt to notify you that they don't want a weapon on the premises has the force of law.

Yeah. From now on, I'll keep my firearm locked up in the car if I need to go anywhere in Oklahoma. When I'm driving, I'll just reload my gun and back into my holster. I'll just carry my folding knife and my police magnum pepper spray to be on the safe side.

Oklahoma Law is it can be a gun with a slash through it written in orange crayon on a small piece of paper.

If you carried in there you broke the law.

My husband drives in Oklahoma Every week and delivers to many different place for two to three days week. You can also only carry one gun on you.

This is one of those check the laws of the state you are going into to. Oklahoma does not have to put up 30.06 signs you have to comply with their laws.

You also cannot carry nothing over .45 cal

That sign was a legal sign. Good thing you did not get caught.

My husbands carrys a three ring binder from every state he travels into with emails from each state about him being able to carry or not.

I recall you mentioning this before, but I can find nothing to document it.

http://www.osbi.state.ok.us/PublicServi ... k_2005.pdf

[p.19] 12. Authorized pistol to be either: (D) derringer, (R) revolver, (S)
semiautomatic pistol, or some combination of derringer, revolver and
semiautomatic pistol as may be authorized by the Oklahoma Self-
Defense Act for which the person demonstrated qualification pursuant
to the certificate of training or an exemption certificate.

[p.20] C. Any person having a valid concealed handgun license pursuant to the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act may carry any make or model of an authorized pistol listed on the license, provided the type of pistol shall not be other than the type or types listed on the license.

The .45 cal restriction is listed under the section on prohibited ammunition.

I have been unable to locate any reference limiting carry to one handgun.

I may be overlooking it. Can you enlighten?
