I looked up the verse in a Strong's concordance that contains selling one's garment and purchasing a sword. The original definition of sword does, indeed, speak of a physical weapon. Luke 22: 36

Very good and insightful read, but I think he may have gotten one part wrong when he said there were two types of militia - regulated and unregulated.

If I am not mistaken, "Well Regulated" in colonial times meant "Well Equipped". I seem to remember reading an article by a neutral scholar who pointed this out some years ago. Just as today "bad" can mean good, and "gay" can mean homosexual. Bad and gay did not hold these modern meanings a century ago.

I have often thought that some people who hate guns with such deepness somehow hate them because they felt, or knew, they could not control their own actions if in possession of such a deadly tool. They don't trust themselves with a gun and therefore assume no one else can be trusted with one. This notion of evil always lurking about and trying to find an opening is not a new concept, to me anyway, but I had never thought of it in this context.

Bingo. The anti-gun folks I have met seem to think that you're going to use your to "resolve" a disagreement that does not call for a gun, and "escalate" the situation. They do not understand the deep sense of responsibility that comes with having a CHL. I know that I myself started rethinking actions I might have previously taken without giving considerable thought to the consequenses of, when my CHL was imminent and the gravity of my responsibilities became more evident. I imagine the same thing happens to most new CHLers.
