I had a chance to fire a Century Arms C39 milled receiver AK a couple of weeks ago. I was told not to expect much in the accuracy department from any AK, but was very pleasantly surprised. I was consistently putting rounds into an 8 inch circle (most in a 6 inch circle) at 100 yards after just a bit of fiddling with the sights at 25 and 50 yards using just the stock iron sight setup and firing over a sandbag rest.

That kind of group wouldn't be in bragging territory for AR or M1A, but it was a lot better than I was expecting from the AK. I haven't done a lot of rifle shooting in the last couple of years, so I take the ding for most of the spread.

Maybe Century is onto something with the milled receiver, which is reportedly machined out of an 11 pound solid block of metal.

I like the Texas Weapon Systems dog leg rail on Andy's rifle. It provides a real stable platform for the optics and minimizes one of the many variables with this weapon system, which was built to deliver rock solid dependability and just reasonable accuracy. It does what it was designed for and does it well.

You like the TRS25?? Reliable and rugged?

one of these days I would like to get a red dot for my Romanian, but the EOTech and Aimpoint class red sights are still pretty rich for my budget. On the other hand I don't want to buy something that will fail early on.

Nice AK Andy, looks like you had a blast.

That's the same reticle that was in my Burris AR536 which I sold a while back. It seems like a well thought out reticle, although it took a little getting used to it.

I have the SAM7R-61 with a TRS25 mounted too. Works very well and very accurate. Also milled receiver for the AK. Hard to beat an AK-47 for pure inexpensive fun.

AndyC wrote:The sights are the weak point on an AK if accuracy is a requirment - that's the main reason I coughed up the money for this rail; it wasn't so much for the ability to mount optics as it was to get 1. a peep rear-sight and 2. double the sight-radius.

I might have shown this before, but here's a 50-yard group using a Bushnell TRS25 1x red-dot on this rifle:

I'm understandably eager to see what it can do at 100 yds - with the benefits of magnification.

The milled receiver.... well, I do like milled and carried one of those in the sandbox, but I'm not yet convinced that they're intrinsically any more accurate than stamped receivers. I'd sure like to be able to test that, though :)
That is a truly impressive group for an AK. Now I'll be looking for a chance to fire one with a red dot mounted.

You definitely can't beat the "bang for the buck" that you get with an AK.

350 yards?

I watched a guy measure that shot with a laser and he said it wad 400+

That is the the same target I sighted in my Rem 700. I can hit it every time!

Impressive shooting with an AK! :thumbs2:

Yep, I like the little bugger well enough - no issues with it at all. It's stood up to the recoil of .223, 7.62 Ak and 7.62 Nato - I'd happily have bought another if I hadn't specifically wanted magnification this time around.

Thanks guys. I got a PM praising the TRS25 from another board member as well. And it gets good reviews on Amazon. Excuse me while I go shopping....
