I just got a S&W 19-5 (2 1/2") in 357 mag. It is blue, and has black combat grips. SN (ANB49XX). I do not know when it was made, where, and how much it is worth. I gave $200.00 for it. It looks brand new. No holster marks. Looks like it is just out of the box new. Please help.

Thank you,
Calvin

Oh by the way my CHL is Application Completed - license issued or certificate active as of today 5-17-07 not long now. Come on mail man, make my day!!!!!

Congratulations. According to [urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&W_Model_19]Wikipedia[/url], your revolver was made some time between 1961 and 1967. $200 sounds like a good price to me, but I never researched what they sell for.

These guys might know more: http://forums.sixgunner.com/.

The closest thing I found on Google (though I didn't spend that much time looking since I was on break) was a link on THR that put your gun's manufacture approximately in the mid-80's or so, though you could always write S&W and ask.

sparx,

Yes I could ask S&W, but it is $30.00 for the information. I though I would ASK the good people in the forum. They are good people.

I show on that page that for the 19-5, the first year was 1982 and was when they eliminated the cylinder counterbore. I of course wouldn't know for sure, but am just trying to help out and learn a bit for myself.

Cheers!

Ouch!!! I didn't know they would charge two arms for that info! The very nice lady at Ruger, and the also very nice lady at Colt both provided me with that information in the past free of charge... Hmmm, that's sad to hear.

Your revolver was made in 1986. If you paid $200 for a like-new Model 19-5, you got a great deal. That revolver would easily sell for $300-400 out here.

(from the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 2nd Edition).

I hope you feel appropriately guilty for stealing it!

Sorry. I was looking at the years for the 19-2. Did I mention that I'm dyslexic?

Well to tell you alittle about it. I give the guy $200.00 in Academy gift cards that I got from work for doing some things. So the 19-5 was for free if you think about it.

My uncle is in customs/ home land sec and he said that the state it is in, I could get from 400.00 to 500.00 for it. I mean, it looks brand new. I want to go and do some shooting with it to make sure it is sighted in good.
