Open House at Austin Rifle Club

This hasn't generated much interest on this forum, at least in the Shooting Ranges section, so I thought I might announce it here. With all of the inquiries about ranges in Austin, or lack of, I'd like to see people at least look into this.

The Austin Rifle Club (ARC) is hosting an open house on Armed Services Day, Saturday May19, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Afterwards, there will be an orientation for those interested in joining.

The event costs $15 for adults 13 & over and $5 for those under 13. This includes opportunities to shoot the club's rifles (all types, I understand) and ammo is provided. A demonstration of a .50 BMG will be conducted. Food will be for sale, and a raffle for a shooting lesson and a CHL class and if enough tickets are sold, a M1 Garand will be a part of the raffle. All proceeds go to the club's treasury, it is a non-profit organization.

If this looks inviting, look up more info on http://www.austinrifleclub.org

This is ARC's Armed Forces Day celebration/open house, and from ARC's newsletter: "all current servicemen and women wearing thrie uniform get in free".

I believe there'll be demos of all the competition shooting ARC hosts, e.g. pistol/rifle silhouette, NRA conventional pistol, high power rifle, benchrest rifle, NRA smallbore rifle, blackpowder, etc.

Thanks for posting the info O6nop. Never would have heard about it otherwise.

Me and My Wifey poo went. Shot a few things and had a great time.

We shot the Bench rest rifle w/1lb trigger pull, 1911 for pistol silhouette competition that we had to hold the hammer back to let the slide go forward. (one handed unsupported @ 25 & 50 yards is hard)

My Girlie had a blast with the Romanian .22 Training rifle w/ Iron sights. she also enjoyed knocking down the pigs, chickens and turkeys with the scoped Ruger 10/22 and a Henry Lever action .22 w/ Iron sights. She wants a varmint rifle now.

We stuck around for the orientation and got all the membership stuff taken care of. I would have turned it in but I didn't have a back ground check. Was told I could just mail it in with a copy of CHL after it comes in the next few weeks.

Going to the Gun show today ...

Laterz,
Rick

I'm happy I was able to get you in touch. I look forward to seeing you as a member.
I was there but I decided to volunteer. I was the greeter/traffic control guy on the road.

It was fun watching people learn and try new things. There was a good demonstration of the .50 BMG, it even set off some car alarms when it went off. And one of the members was there doing some flintlock and matchlock shooting.
