I have been reading through this forum and it's given me a lot to consider about what I would do in any situation. I just wanted to post and say thank you all for being willing to share your stories, admit your mistakes, and ask for suggestions.

Last night I was driving through my small town to get something from walgreens. I had my sig p238 iwb. As I'm driving through the neighborhood I notice a woman standing by the road and it looked as though she was dragging a young adult man off the road to the grass. It was getting dark and I wasn't able to see the situation very clearly. I didn't see her gesturing for help or looking very panicked as I slowed to pass, so I kept going. As I came to the next stop sign I turned so that I could loop around and go back to see if she needed help. As I waited at a light I kept thinking back to various threads I've read here and wondered what really should be done in this situation.

I turned the opposite way and drove a quarter mile to the police station. I went in and told them of the situation and location and an officer went to check it out. I stayed to give the dispatcher my info and while he was on another call, I overheard that the situation I reported was about a man who'd had a seizure. By the time I left the ambulance had already come and gone.

It would have been easy for me to assume that nothing dangerous was going on. And easier still for me to think I'd be ok just because I was armed. But I had no idea what type of situation I was walking into and reality is guns don't make me invincible.

The only thing that I worried about with how I handled it was that while I was in the pd, I kept trying to remember what the laws were regarding carrying in a police department. So I am now going over the laws to be sure that I know what to do regardless of where I end up having to go.

You can carry into a police department. You just can't carry into the secured areas behind the counter.

I'm aware of the restrictions for courts and correctional facilities. I don't see where any part of a police station is restricted. What did I miss?

The officer escorting you into the jail will stop and ask you if you are armed with any weapons hat need to be put in a locker. Even the cops can't carry the secure jail area and will put their guns and knives in a locker.
