Top-level turnover makes it harder for DHS to stay on top of evolving threats

An exodus of top-level officials from the Department of Homeland Security is undercutting the agency’s ability to stay ahead of a range of emerging threats, including potential terrorist strikes and cyberattacks, according to interviews with current and former officials.

Over the past four years, employees have left DHS at a rate nearly twice as fast as in the federal government overall, and the trend is accelerating, according to a review of a federal database.

The departures are a result of what employees widely describe as a dysfunctional work environment, abysmal morale, and the lure of private security companies paying top dollar that have proliferated in Washington since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

I would add another likely reason..... they don't want the stain on their future careers. DHS has become enormously unpopular with the public, particularly the TSA division. Add to that the fact that DHS is charged with enforcing massive law enforcement legislation — namely the Patriot Act — which, no matter whether it is a good or a bad thing is also viewed askance by a large number of citizens. I think nobody with upward federal gummint ambitions wants that on their resumés.

Anyway, given the size of its budget, the bad moral certainly can't be coming from lack of funding.

Just what we need. The average, the so-so, the also-rans in charge of our security.

Frankly, the 2nd Amendment becomes more important every day as we face threats both from without and from within.

I bet the turnover is due to complete and utter ignorance of the top end trying to work DHS in all political image first instead of real hardcore security of our country as it should be! I can't blame them for leaving that kind of shameful environment. This administration's philosophy is reactionary...SLOW... Like watch a sloth climb a tree. Darn frustrating, but quite pleasing to the enemy. Who wants to be on a sinking battleship?

Unfortunately, the only time we will see real action is AFTER another attack. Why was our threat level not raised?! What they found in Australia was beyond disturbing. They've already beheaded a soldier in England. Wake up DHS, lone wolf and homegrown terrorists are real.

I have lost faith in my government to protect us in advance.

Take a look at who's running the government now.

More than likely they are all getting jobs with the companies they have been giving contracts and business to over the last 6 years.
