Missing Realtor Found Dead

The Arkansas Realtor with ties to Montgomery County, Texas has been found dead. She was buried in a shallow grave and a suspect has been arrested. I saw a video of a reporter asking why he did it and he said "because she was rich . . ."
This hits especially hard because my wife is a Realtor. These folks, many of whom are women, go into empty houses with perfect strangers. There are procedures like getting a driver's license before meeting a new client, but you can never completely eliminate the additional risk this profession suffers. For over a year now, I've been offering special CHL class rates for Realtor groups and while many individual Realtors come to class, brokers aren't taking advantage of this offer for their agents. I found this mildly irritating before this poor woman's murder, now I find it irresponsible.
Prayers go out for the family of this latest victim.
Chas.

Very sad and alarming news indeed. I was at one time in the real estate business many years ago. It was scary knowing the ladies were going out alone with strangers. For that matter, I was concerned for myself at times.

I typically let my partner know when I go out to meet a potential client at a property. The riskiest thing is opening the keybox and focusing attention toward that. It would be so easy for anyone with malicious intentions to take advantage of anyone in that situation. I carry IWB, which is nice to have and not need. There have been times that I have been extremely grateful I was carrying during an open house alone. Not that I've ever needed it and hopefully I never will. Unfortunately, due to the high number of people we meet and places we go in the real estate sales industry, our exposure is maximized compared to the typical person going through their daily routine.
I was surprised that, at least in our office, there were a lot of people who carried (mainly purse carry for the females). I doubt all of them practice techniques and refine their skills regularly, but at least they have taken a proactive step in their own safety.

How profoundly sad. Our former neighbor was a realtor and she always carried and was always alert.

My SIL has her CHL in Pennsylvania. Her carry is a 38 detectives model with laser, I think it is a Charter Arms but not sure. Anyway, she carries at 3'O Clock typically under a light Sport Jacket and is a very prayerful Christ follower (this is important to the story). She had made an appointment at a house with an African American male and she said there was just something that didn't feel right. She delayed him in the front sidewalk talking to him to try and figure out what, if anything she was going to do. She said she prayed silently that God would protect her from whatever this man's intent was. She said a gust of when hit and bloused her jacket momentarily exposing the weapon. She said she could see that he noticed the weapon and then started making excuses as he went to his car and left.

Locusts, frogs . . . or a gust of wind.

LOL, I can hear the other side all ready about how he was almost murdered, but a gust of wind saved him.

When I heard they found her, I gasped. I was holding out hope. Bless her husband and family. This is a wake up call. How wonderful some of you are encouraging realtors to carry. I hope more will sign up.
I love your story Dragonfighter!

If my wife was a realtor I would not only insist that she arm herself, I would also think about developing some sort of pre-visit "meet first" process whereby, at the very least, the person who wants to be shown a property knows that he/she has been IDENTIFIED such that if anything untoward happens he/she is Suspect #1.
I realize agents can't be vetting every one they meet but...something???

It probably did, she's a crack shot.
