Auditing a CHL class

Weird question of the day. Anyone ever heard of auditing the classroom portion of the class? I've got my CHL but I wouldn't mind sitting through the discussion portion again as a refresher. I don't need to shoot of course. I don't want to pay full price and wondered if there's ever an option to sit and listen without tests etc. for a reasonable fee. I'm in the Pearland/Friendswood/Webster area but would drive a reasonable distance.

Since the requirement to have a class to renew has gone away, I offer a CHL Refresher Course. I emphasize that this course is in no way required, but offered for those folks that would like an update on the most current laws as well as an opportunity to shoot, not only the DPS aproved course of fire, but situational/scenario training and discusssions. Many other instructors offer similar training with names such as Defensive Handgun. I would have no issue with someone "auditing" the classroom portion and not shooting "for a reasonable fee" and I believe most other instructors would also accomodate. Only real answer is to ASK the individual instructor.

I've allowed previous students to sit through class with their so. Didn't charge them anything. I also had one gentleman that I ended up getting a number of referrals from wanting to sit through it again. I didn't have a problem at all with that.

If it was just someone off the street wanting a refresher course I might charge them a token fee. How much would depend on if they wanted to shoot or not.

Ask around and see what the instructors will do for you.

I am going to audit the Nov 1st session at PSC taught by our very own forum host, Charles L. Cotton. :txflag:

My son is taking the course before his 21st birthday so that he can apply in early November on his birthday.

I also took my original course from Mr. Cotton, so it will be nice to get a refresher.

The gentleman that taught my last couple classes said he allows any former students to audit for no cost. He actually encourages it, at least every other year to keep up with the changes in laws, etc.

I do it for those that want to sit through it again.
For folks that want to sit through it to see if they want a CHL.
For folks today that need to renew but want to hear all the changes since they got their license.

We allow anyone to audit our class.

New instructors can sit through it, but have to help RSO at the range.

Spouses, significant others, moral supporters - no charge.

Others who just want a refresher - $25 to cover their refreshments and printed materials.

It sounds like it's fairly common. I just have to find someone local that does the same thing.
