New gunshow at TMS Dec. 13/14, 2014

Noticed a handbill for a new gun show at the Texas Motor Speedway ( at least it's new to me and I didn't see any discussion about it here). It's sponsored by Dan's Five Star http://dansfivestar.com, who also sponsors a show at the Grapevine Convention Center, Feb 14/15, 2015.

Among their rules is #2 on their "Rules" page: "No concealed handguns. Random searches, including of vendors, may be undertaken."

No mention of PC 30.06 postings anywhere on their website.

I guess I'm going to be busy that weekend. It's a shame that people like this, who want to make money off of us, don't trust us with loaded, concealed weapons at their show.

With all due respect, I don't see how this is different from any other gun show I've ever been to.

They are right up front about it: http://www.dansfivestar.com/about.html

[And thank you for your service, sir.]

Happy to be able to serve. Thank you!

I've pretty much decided, and I admit that I have changed my stance on this over the last couple of years, that I don't particularly care to give my business to someone, anyone, who is not willing to allow me to exercise my 2nd Amendment freedoms freely.

Yes, Texas Motor Speedway is on land owned by the City of Fort Worth (it was purchased by the City through a single-purpose entity called the Fort Worth Sports Authority and leased to Speedway Motorsports, the operator of TMS) so by definition, a 30.06 sign can not be enforced due to the pre-emption by state law. (That's why the Speedway contributes nothing to the local tax base - they don't even pay school district taxes).

Regardless - if the promoter doesn't want me with my legal concealed weapon, they don't want my money bad enough. So, I've stopped going to gun shows where they're not welcoming of CHL's.

And yes, I think they are very different than other gun shows - I've never seen another gun show tell patrons that, if you come in you'll be subject to random searches. Have you? If, so... Where?

Wichita Falls Gunshow, Dec 6 and Dec 7, NO 30.06, always a nice show, not huge but a nice friendly show. $5 admission.

This is one I will avoid.

I understand the concealed handguns policy. Don't like it but understand. As far as random searches. It isn't happening to me. I'd leave, won't be searched per their 'policy'.

See, that's a big part of my problem with the guns show's hypocracy: the statistics show that CHL holders, in the past, have committed many percentage points less crime, as shown by the DPS's own records, than the "average citizen" or, IIRC, even peace officers. With that in mind, the promoters are letting the poh-poh in uniform come in for free ( just like 7-11 stores have special non-inventoried cups behind the counter for police officers because having uniforned police officers hanging around in your store at night is believed to be a deterrent to crime) but not CHL's with their weapons? Nope, not for me.

1.All local, state and federal laws must be observed. All table holders must adhere to local, state and federal laws as they apply to sales, trades and other transactions. Vendors are responsible for collection and reporting Texas Sales Tax.

2.No concealed handguns. Random Searches, including of vendors may be undertaken.

It appears to me that TMS being city property, rule one negates rule two.

Me too. I know I wouldn't and I know most if not all here wouldn't, but statistically there is probably one CHL holder that might think it's a good idea to draw his loaded carry weapon to try a holster or accessory. If I were management I wouldn't want to risk it either. I still don't like it at all though.

My take is a private entity cannot search me period. They can ask me to leave, but not search. If they have a problem call the police. I'll wait. Police cannot search without probable cause. A 'random' search of me isn't happening.

I will not be there either. ;-) DCSA has table at another Premier Gun Show in Lewisville this weekend.
