i've always wanted a M9a1, but it's just too big for my grip. i actually wrote beretta and asked if they can make the grip smaller or maybe have the option of interchangeable grip panel.....bam! they listened to me! :anamatedbanana

This is Beretta's attempt to fend off the new handgun acquisition the Army is working on. Not saying that it is a bad idea, but I have seen the incumbents do this before when a new acquisition is being contemplated. If they can convince the Army that they get a mo'bettah but cheaper pistol without the agony of a full blown source selection, then Beretta win big. If not, then depending on the specific requirements of the acquisition, Beretta already has a good start, and they can tout the commonality of parts, holsters, etc.

Beretta could have offered an ECP to make a better, cheaper pistol at any time of course, but a pending RFP certainly provides motivation...

They say the new version will cost the DoD less than the current M9?

Does that mean when they unveil it at Shot for us non military it will be less than $800? "rlol"

Has some nice features though. Threaded barrel, removable sights and the smaller wraparound grip.

Lots of interest in this from the Berettaforum. Mainly that it can be switched from FS to G (decocker only) & the Vertec grip with an add-on backstrap.
