Nickel Phosphate. I have one, and it is amazing how easily it cleans up after a lot of rounds fired. It basically just wipes clean with a rag. BTW, all these plated BCGs still need to be lubed. I use Fireclean on mine. The plating just increases the lubricity, and helps to keep crud from burning onto the parts.

I have two nickels and they do clean up a lot easier. No experience with the first one tho.

Thanks for the feedback, I looked for this and could only find NiB ones, not Nickel Phosphate.. where did you get yours ?

I only have experience with Spike's Nickel Boron. I thoroughly enjoy mine. It seems to clean a lot easier than other BCG I have had. My experience with AR's is limited, but I sure like the Nickel Boron from Spikes.

Ah.. So is this process available commercially yet and what is the cost for an AR BCG ?

Is this a good deal for a PSA nickel-boron BCG?

It's not a great price imo but it's not bad. I bought my last one from ares for $99 and I've seen it on PSA for the same.

In my case it was free because Andy's friend was in the oil-field equipment plating business and wanted to try out plating some gun parts to see if would be a good fit for his business. It actually to a couple of attempts to get it right. I offered to pay for replating after the first time didn't go as well, but the guy graciously accepted no money.

I am VERY pleased with the result so far. BCG cleanup is much quicker and easier now. Most of the crud just wipes right off with a rag. The only place that consistently needs a little elbow grease is the tail end of the bolt, aft of the gas seal, where carbon still burns onto the surface. But even that is much easier to clean than prior to plating. I just apply a little Fireclean and let it soak in, then a nylon or brass brush scrapes the carbon right off with less than half the time or effort it used to take. I lube everything with Fireclean upon reassembly.

It is important to remember that plated BCGs still need to be lubed. The plating adds to lubricity, but it isn't supposed to be a substitute for lubricants. Whatever lubricant floats your boat is fine. I've gotten fond of Fireclean, but I have used others with good results - Froglube, Slip2000, MobileOne, etc., etc.

Looks like AIM has them back in stock for $99.
