What scope are you going to put on it?

save $99 or so for Harris Bipod. It came with my SSG04 and it is rock solid compared to clones from China.

How true that when the product has been produced from China, it is no good? Is there any logic concerning this matter?

I own two Harris bipods and a Chinese Harris clone. The Chinese one works fine, but it does seem a little more cheaply made. I haven't subjected any of the three to "hard" use. They have been used primarily at the range, and one of the true Harris bipods has been on a couple of hunting trips.....but still no hard use. That said, if Harris bipods were good enough for Chris Kyle......


Andy, for that rifle, you want the "Bench Rest" version of the bipod, which should have the designation "BR" in the SKU somewhere. The BR bipod will extend high enough to be useful, but allows you to get low enough too, which the others don't. That is a BR model in the above picture, and he does not have the legs extended, so they will go longer than that if needed. Also, a bipod with an "S" in the designation will swivel from side to side, allowing you to cant the rifle a few degrees to either right or left to compensate for uneven elevation of the shooting surface without having to independently adjust the leg extensions.......important because the bullet drop on your reticle is only valid if the elevation axis is true vertical. This is the one I would get for this rifle: http://www.harrisbipods.com/HBRS.html. It has both the bench-rest and swivel designations. My guess is that you might be able to find this somewhere for less than the discounted price of $109.50 (from $136.60) from Harris directly, but not by much. Brownells has it for $103.99 for instance, which will cover part of the freight.

I don't really know what kind of warranty Harris offers, but I'm pretty sure that a $39.95 Chinese knock-off comes with exactly zero warranty. If you want, the next time you're out my way, I can show you both a real Harris and the Chinese knock-off, and you can decide for yourself which would give you more confidence at what price. Let me know.

Edited to add: I just remembered that my son had a Chinese knock-off of a Harris bipod at one time, and the legs part separated from the mounting base where a weld cracked and then broke. I can't remember if he was using it on his Savage 10-FP, or on his Sage chassis M1A. Either way, I can tell you that it wasn't used any harder than mine, which is still intact.

That was the exact model I was pondering at Cabela's last night - I think they wanted $119 for it.

Good! You can't go wrong with it. You and I will have to add a Savage/Remington .308 component to our FAL/SCAR comparison on our next trip out to PCSC (detouring at that gas station for some more of that outstanding beef-jerkey)!

In the meantime, I'm off to Elm Fork to confirm zero on my AR/ACOG combo and get zero on my SCAR/Viper PST combo.

Daggum change of plans.

Apparently, Elm Fork has changed its schedule since the last time I was there, and they are now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. I should have checked the website, as I found out the hard way. So now I have a 4pm appointment for the rifle tube at Bass Pro.
