Hello I am a new member to this site. I became a member a few years back to download your old handgun private sales form and haven't been back since. Well to make a long story short my wife and I decided to move to Texas this May and we are looking to reside in Seabrook or El Lago where my son lives. I currently have a Missouri CCW and I guess I will have to attend a class when I get to your state. My question is how long will my MO CCW last for in Texas. I will be staying with family until my house sells in Missouri after which I will purchase a house to live in the area. I was thinking that I will be ok until I actually purchase a house in Texas is this true? We are looking forward to the move to Texas to be close to family and I hope to be an active member of this forum.

Welcome and while you are from Missouri, please don't "Show me" your gun LOL (yes, bad pun, but oh well!)

Your MO license is valid in Texas as long as it is valid for MO.

Get your Texas CHL, and get a couple more perks
--- ability to carry within 1000 feet of a school (not in the buildings mind you)
--- ability to use that to bypass NICS checks when purchasing a gun, and you know you need another LOL

This is good to hear MO is trying to get this passed in the current Legislative session. We get a lot of trouble passing things because we have a Dem governor and St Louis, Kansas City and Columbia (University of Missouri) which are huge bastions of liberalism. I was also born and raised in the north Buffalo NY to be exact but the Air Force sent me to Missouri in 77 and I got out of the service after 12, years in 78 and decided to stay in MO where the taxes were much more reasonable than NY state. I am a 70% disabled vet so I hope the VA hosp. in Houston is a good one. BTW do you have to live in TX six months before you can get your CCl.

Once you establish permanent residency in Texas your Missouri CWP is no longer valid as Missouri does not have a non-resident permit process. So, I would recommend getting into a class and applying as soon as possible. You can actually get your Texas CHL with your Missouri address on it and then pay a $25 fee to change the address once you have a permanent home here. Or, you can wait to apply and send in your CHL-100 from the class as soon as you have the home here and have a new address established.

And, not sure where you are from in Missouri, but in case you are not aware, Texas has no open carry at all.

And, as I mentioned above, you can get it now with your Missouri address, you do not have to wait 6 months even after moving here.

Yeah it's very problematic that liberalism takes over the highest population density areas.
