Bra holster fatality

A woman who accidentally shot herself in the eye on New Years Day at her Lake Michigan home was adjusting the handgun in her bra holster, police say.

I'm not sure if it was a Flashbang holster, but sounds like same concept. The Flashbang appears to fully cover the trigger, so I'm not sure how adjusting the holster alone would cause the weapon to fire. I wonder if she was re-holstering, or if the gun slipped out of the holster and she caught the trigger on her finger and/or the holster causing it to go off. Sad news.

What I want to know is - having watched COPS for years and they're always pulling guns from crooks' waist bands and other hiding spots - how come we never hear about these thugs shooting themselves? Not fair.

I suspect that a fair number of thugs shoot themselves unintentionally, then lie about it if they're still able. Report it as a drive=by, mugging, or some such. Some of the accidents may get classified as suicides or attempts, as well.

Flashbangs and similar holsters really beg for a gun with the much-maligned thumb safety. Especially on guns with short stroke triggers. OR a lot more training than comes with the instructions. This is a sad event to die for a moment's mistake. Prayers for her family.

She shot herself in the eye. Do these holsters hang the gun vertically? I assume that means the woman was looking down at it. Rather than her finger in the trigger, could something else have snagged the trigger?

Does anyone have pictures of some of these holsters? (tasteful pictures of course :evil2: )

Okay, looking at that Flashbang holster picture when I did a search, it looks like it hangs on a single loop and could pivot to point straight up pretty easily. Also, I haven't seen one close up before ( ), but it almost looks like clothing or something could get snags between the holster and gun. Still not sure how that could pull the trigger, but some pistols don't need much.

I have not seen any information on whether or not the holster involved was indeed a flashbang or another make of bra holster. The flashbang does cover the trigger with a clamshell type of retention but re-holstering the firearm is something I would rather not do with the holster in place. When shifting it around in or under the bra, care must be taken so that the firearm is not pulled down out of the clamshell in the process. Any carry location that can point a firearm at the body requires a strategy. I carry at the appendix position most of the time and prefer not re-holster however carefully while seated since it points the gun at the femoral artery. I will remove the holster in that case and then insert the firearm while pointed in a safe direction. I see stories a little too often of even leo's discharging rounds into themselves so it's easy enough to do.

My wife has one of these, and although she's never touched it yet, it seems to me:

1. That pulling it down out of the clamshell is exactly the "draw" action

2. That reholstering on-body is specifically warned against in the instructions for it (and common sense as well)

It's tragic that this woman killed herself and since apparently no one was watching her, we'll never know what she did wrong...

My wife also has one, that she also doesn't use, but we have given it a look since this incident and can't quite figure out how the woman in question got the muzzle elevated enough, or her head down far enough, or a combination of the two, with her finger on the trigger, to hit herself in the eye. I have to wonder if there isn't more to the story.

I agree with Jim. There seems to be more to this story than meets the eye. (No irony intended.)
