I have a few "big" full size steel semi-autos (like my Baby Eagle. CZ75B and Berettas) that I'd like to carry under my left arm for drawing righthanded.

I went and tried a couple on at a shop the other day and didn't like the way the grip/butt angled out away from my body making a noticable BULGE.

My question is:
Does anyone make a "moderately reasonably priced" should holster that would keep the grip closer toward my body, that angled out like that to be unnoticable? (without a "chest strap" that would blow the concealment?)

I really would like your advice, please.

I've tried two shoulder rigs.

The first was an Uncle Mikes for a Beretta 96. To sum it up, it's like my grandpa says, you get what you pay for... It was very hard to get a 'perfect' fit because of all the velcro. Not to mention that turning would sometimes cause the the velcro to make noise, thus, blowing the idea of concealment. The thing I did appreciate is that it came with tie-downs on the rig and that helped with holster placement and bulging. Overall, it's probably better suit as a shoulder harness to wear outside clothing.

I recently acquired a Galco Jack-Ass shoulder rig for a 4inch 1911. Aesthetics aside, it really is a much more workable rig. Easy to adjust, sturdy, minimal noise. This rig did not come with tie-downs, those have to be ordered separetly. Surprisingly though, the tie-downs aren't needed. I have it so that my gun sits parrallel to my breast bone and above my stomach, and that is the flattest part of my side. Stays perfectly concealed with button up shirts and sweatshirts, no bulging. You can also adjust the straps to gain a diagnol (sp) position which can help to further enhance concealment. I am thinking about getting the tie-downs as I wear alot of polo type shirts and would like to be able to use this rig when wearing those shirts.

Based on my experiences, my advice would be to try several different rigs as there can be a big difference in quality and functionality from one to the next. Also, look at one that supports using tie-downs as that could help with weapon/holster placement.

I guess I forgot to say that the shoulder holster I tried was a vertical carry type. They also had horizontals, similar to the style of your Jack Ass.
But being a vertical carry was why the grip angled away from my side as I said.

I looked at their horizontal ones too...but even though I'm a "fairly" big guy, I couldn't imagine the muzzel of an 8.5" pistol not showing somewhat behind my carry arm. With smaller pistols there would not be a problem.

But I want this one for when I want to carry the big ones.
I've see photos of shoulder holsters that are canted somewhere between vertical and horizontal....that type would take care of both "problems" and neither the muzzel in back, or the grip/butt on the front side would show. But unfortunately I lost track of who makes that type. About 30 or 40 degree cant is what I want

Can ANYONE tell me who/where that angled type are made by, please?

All of the shoulder rigs that I am familiar with are either vertical or horizontal except for the previously mentioned Jackass rig. The Jackass carries at an angle, with the muzzle high.

There also is a style called the FBI style shoulder holster that is canted.
But can't find them even on Google.

There also is a style called the "Miami Vice" type, but can't get any info on if it is 20 degrees or more of cant, or what.

Anybody know about those questions, please?

To make up for my speed reading earlier, I'm seeing what I can come up with. So far, not much.

- Found one post about an Italian outfit called 'Vega' but no one could locate dealers or contact information.

However, it's slightly more expensive then the Galco rig and looks like it would offer relatively the same amount of cant.

I just googled for 'holster shoulder diaganol canted'. Most results go back to Galco or Aker.

Galco Miami Classic can be adjusted so that the weapon has a muzzle up cant to it. I carry mine that way.

I don't want the muzzle up....I want the muzzle canted Down behind my arm at my side, with the grip canted down also somewhat..at something between 20 or 30 dregrees forward of vertical rig.

I've just ordered a good quality horizontal carry holster that can be modified with tie down, to pull the muzzle down enough to raise the grip as mush as I need.

For 17 years as a Chief of Police I carry either a Browning Highpower or a Glock 21 in a Jack-Ass Shoulder Rig. Confortabe and easy to sit in a chair with. With a coat or jacket on it does not present a weapon butt first to the perp.

I know aLOT of other guys like the Jack-Ass rig too.
If after I carry with the modified rig I ordered for a while (and if not satisfied), I may go to that(JA) rig too. For now, the opposite cant seems more like what I want.

Galco also makes a 'half holster' that I find very comfortable, and easy to adjust..

the extra mag may give you better balance.. but that never bothered me.. I always slipped a spare mag in my pocket..
