I guess not everyone is quite as knowledgeable about firearms as they could be when entering the military.

"Why did this happen Sargent?"

This is why you train and practice, before you get to the real thing. ;-)

Did I detect laughter in the Sgt's voice at the end of the video?

Or become a cook. There may not be enough training or practice to get that guy ready.

Why do you think the water is not boiling? Because you forgot to turn on the stove! :reddevil

Instructor: You're weapon is not firing, because you ran out of ammo!
Student: "How did it happen, sir?"

Duh. Poor guy. Probably has never fired a gun in his life. Back to the classroom with you!

I remember a guy during my basic training that could not march in formation to save his life. The DI finally threw him out of the formation and told him to hit the shower. It's was all we could do to maintain our composure as the guy fell in behind another squad heading in the direction of the dorms in perfect step. It was the only time I saw our DI truly lose his temper.
Some people just aren't meant for military life.

My D.S. would've gone ape if such a scenario had occurred with any of us birds as we were uniformly referred to as...

The only time I felt embarrassed during basic was during a fire and maneuver exercise when I lost my rhythm when to fire and when to maneuver.

My D.S. just shook his head in disgust which for me was far more painful than being screamed at...as I was generally a good soldier, but we all screw up.

For some reason this thread reminds me of the time we had to throw live hand grenades - and they gave us a choice to throw or not.

I couldn't believe a person given the chance to throw a live grenade wouldn't. I was astonished at the number of guys who turned down the chance. I didn't understand their reluctance. Still don't.

I asked if I could throw all the grenades passed up on and all I got was a shake of the head - NO!

Plus, there were a number of severe obstacle courses where the soldiers were given a choice to do or choose not to do. Now, I'm no Rambo, but I elected to do all of them because I found them fun.

Most fun, was the climb up a very high rope ladder and then once on top, climb down hand over hand on a rope set at 45 degree angle to the ground. This was great fun, a little scary, but fun. Only a small hand full of us did it.

I thought they eliminated that 100,000 men program trial they had when I was active duty. They were all too stupid.

I think he was having trouble not roaring and rolling on the ground. That one will be told over beer forever.

My first thought, too. Watched too many movies... and believed them!
