Nonconformity and Freethinking Now Considered Mental Illnesses

Is nonconformity and freethinking a mental illness? According to the newest addition of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), it certainly is. The manual identifies a new mental illness called “oppositional defiant disorder” or ODD. Defined as an “ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior,” symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed.

{——SNIP——}

All of this is a symptom of our over-diagnosing and overmedicating culture. In the last 50 years, the DSM-IV has gone from 130 to 357 mental illnesses.

{——SNIP——}

According to the DSM-IV, the diagnosis guidelines for identifying oppositional defiant disorder are for children, but adults can just as easily suffer from the disease. This should give any freethinking American reason for worry. The Soviet Union used new “mental illnesses” for political repression. People who didn’t accept the beliefs of the Communist Party developed a new type of schizophrenia.
Here's what I like about this nonsense...... You go see your doctor, and he/she asks you (because they are supposed to) "do you have any guns in your house." The question is extremely annoying, and it gets your hackles up. You answer back with a defiant answer, and you question the doctor's authority to intrude into your 2nd Amendment rights that way. You are setting yourself up for a diagnosis of "oppositional defiant disorder", and now your RKBA is actually being threatened.....

See what I did there?

...“ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior,”....

Hmmmm, that seems to describe a goodly portion of the high school and college aged people of the 1960's. :biggrinjester:

And I'll even wager that some of those people went on to lead normal lives....maybe even run for office, and become a president. :cool: :lol:

Bonkers, I am bonkers...... :crazy:

Seriously, I've been in out of the hospital and have seen more than a few medicos since having a seizure back in October and not one of them has asked me about guns. In fact, my opthalmologist asked me if I was shooting better since cataract removal surgery.

New mental illnesses identified by the DSM-IV include arrogance, narcissism, above-average creativity, cynicism, and antisocial behavior.
This sounds like someone we know in Washington D.C.. Someone really high up there. Maybe he is crazy.

I have seen the questions on forms and been asked where we take the kids. I ignore the question on the form along with others that don't apply. When asked I simply state that they do not have access to guns, or I might say I think we have a pellet gun.

Can we all start collecting early Social Security (before its gone) if we're diagnosed with the "Free Thinking" portion of this new mental calamity?
This is some pretty crazy stuff here. These United States are headed for a rough patch.

I mentioned in another thread viewtopic.php?f=83&t=75999&p=958301&hil ... o+#p958301" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; our relative who was committed by her husband, daughter, and the family doctor. Part of the testimony against her was that she was non-conformist and incapable of self control, even all the way back then.

Those in power would love to put away those who think differently.
