You can't really blame the students. In today's education system, they are never exposed to both sides of any argument.

Circling the drain. I fully intend for my kids to complete college online. I simply can't see sending them to a cesspool devoid of morals and independent thought.

Shameful how far gone we are and we still manage to decline further.

Please don't. There needs to be an opposing view at College and it won't come from the professors. I grew up in the tiny little pocket of rural, farmland, conservative freedom that exists in the SW corner of NJ. At 18 I went to the big city for college. My first exposure to gun control was the Long Island Railroad shooting. A guy got on the LIRR and shot 21 or 22 people. He reloaded and kept shooting. We were all watching the news report together in the dorm lounge. This was before the internet and before every college kid had their own TV.

I asked out loud why nobody shot back. I was shocked to find out that everyone in the room thought I was crazy for suggesting such a thing.

So, I invited about a dozen people down to the family farm for the weekend to go shooting. We ended up making this trip many times and some weekends we shot thousands of rounds of ammunition. By exposing these kids to another point of view, gun ownership became less scary to my friends who grew up believing that guns were only for criminals.

Fast forward more than 20 years, many of those anti-gun college friends own guns and one has a very nice collection that exceeds mine.

America needs college kids with conservative values to be a good influence on the rest.

There are still excellent conservative colleges that are not liberal bastions of progressive thought. One just needs to do some research and make good decisions.

I wonder if theirs a PTSD category for throwing ones well raised, educated children into a group of indoctrinated humans that are not...

I guess one has to differentiate between free speech and hate speech even when the later is still a protected speech. It is still unwise to be an offensive guy with a loose tongue. Some have a tongue sharper than a sword.

"Hate" anything is a political contrivance to create protected classes.

There is no such thing as "hate speech" or "hate crimes". There is speech that is precluded (Fire! In a crowded theater) and there are crimes which need to be adjudicated in a court of law.

We've got political correctness run amok. No matter the penalties or effort, the government cannot legislate or mandate thought. Respecting another persons rights to say something, even if its stupid or ignorant is a component of a free society. One of the few times I've agreed with anything that came out of Mark Cuban's mouth was when he questioned the NBA's ouster of Donald Sterling as the owner of the Clippers. He essentially said that while what he said was stupid and ignorant, it was not a crime and questioned the wisdom of removing his ownership of property (the team) based on that. Oh well... We know how that worked out.

In the event I wasn't clear, the "hate" anything tag is a red flag for me...

A crime is a crime. Period.

So, I guess first of all, we should remove from Texas Penal code verbal threat to kill someone as a "terroristic act", unless said act is precluded. I can be offended if I am being called a cracker, with whatever that imply ( :headscratch ) . Calling me a rag-head is more offensive as I can understand what the intent was. It is the same case for the word n-r if you used by a black person in front of a black person, it means my buddy. But, I get a beating if I call a black people the n-word. Nonetheless, Negro is perfectly fine to id a black person in Federal Forms.

And, one can add, that there is no terroristic murder, as all murders are just murders.

Modern lingo is confusing.

Modern lingo is confusing, especially when we bring the gibberish of legalese into the discussion. On that topic, I'm in favor of ALL laws being written in plain english. It should be pretty clear to most folks that when we have to stare at a sentence of paragraph in a law/statute/code that it's not clearly written.

It would be my contention that the "terroristic threat" is intended to prevent someone from going about hollering they were going to kill you (in a serious manner) with an intent to induce fear (terror). I'd guess that when that was written, the modern definition of "terrorism" didn't really exist.

You do a good job outlining the contradictory nature of the use of terms and words, even when it comes to "gubmint" form...

Things in general are alot easier when folks are polite, rational, respectful and use good old common sense when using something that might be an offensive term.

My primary point if that there are crimes and offenses that can be committed against individuals. It's my opinion that creating protected classes does more harm than good in an overall sense.

Wasn't questioning your plan. It sounds like a good one for you and I'm sure others as well. I was responding to the broad brush comments that imply all school systems, educational institutions and universities are bad and putting out mindless kids that have been indoctrinated in progressive ideology. It was a simple comment that there are still good traditional conservative universities out there contrary to popular belief.

It gets old and tiring for people to keep promoting their solution as the only right one for everyone and that all the others are bad. I know many good examples from all types of education and I know many bad ones from all types of educational options.

I think we should all stick to our plans that work best for us and stop making blanket condemning comments about the others as that is counterproductive.

mojo84,

Do you know if there's a list of colleges/universities where one can be certain that no leftist/socialist/marxist /professors/instructors are on the faculty?

A couple to start with would be Hillsdale College and Dallas Baptist University. Abilene Christian is very careful in who they hire. So it Mary-Hardin Baylor. Houston Baptist is also very careful. There are quite a few more. You can do a google search to locate more.

I also came across a fairly comprehensive list when we were scouting out schools. Will share it if I can find d it again.
