Found this post today on The Cornered Cat's Facebook feed, and thought the included chart was eye-opening.

How much proficiency do you lose when using your small CCW gun vs a full size pistol?

Interesting article. Thanks for posting. It doesn't surprise me at all that the inexperienced shooters did poorly with both primary & BUG. Conversely, the skilled shooters did the best. If a 90 was a passing score, notice in the chart that none of the shooters in level 1 passed the test, both with primary, and much worse in the BUG.

Also interesting to note that the level 2 shooters, all but 2 failed with their primary. And dismal failing again on the BUG.

What I get out of the story is that we all need to practice, practice, practice. Whether it be with a primary, or BUG. ;-)

My BUG, G30SF, is also my EDC. I usually do fairly well with it in BUG matches since it just barely qualifies right at 3.8 inches. Although I practice with my BUG more than the full size G21SF, I haven't used it for competition much and that is mostly because I keep forgetting to do so. A few of my friends use their G26 or G19 instead of a full size G17.

Depends on the bug. It definitely takes me more practice to shoot a snubbie effectively, and I can't match my accuracy with it to any full size semi-auto. However, if I was using my P938 as a bug my results would be pretty close. The P938 is one fine shootin' gun.

That is another reason I carry a full size gun.

At self defense range, I don't think I'll lose too much with regards to accuracy between my G30 versus the full size G21. And since I carry full size mags for spares, I'm only down three rounds by leaving the 10 round mag in the G30 while in the holster.
