Will I be able to own a weapon?

I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to own a weapon since I have completed my deferred adjudication for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. There was no gun just my hands the judge said an arms an arm and a legs a leg something along those lines. I'm trying to figure out if I will be able to own a pistol now since I have completed my probation. My Probation Officer told me I would since I didn't have a gun but knowing Texas anything is possible. So I'd value any info and comments that can help me out.

I'm no law expert but the only thing I know that will stop you is a felony conviction, were you charged with a felony or did they reduce the charge to a misdemeanor?

They said I wasn't convicted because it was my first offense and it was 2nd degree felony that I only had to do the 3 years and I was done.

DMoney31, first welcome to the forum. We're glad to have you with us.

Your charge is quite serious, which will require much more experienced commentators than I. Sorry.

However, there are many on this forum that can shed light on your question. It may require the opinion of an attorney experienced in criminal defenses to answer your question, so I'd suggest you start there. :tiphat:

Get a disposition from the court. If as you said it is a felony. You couldn't purchase firearms under federal law.

I keep getting mixed signals lol some say yes others say no I'll just have to take a chance and see what comes up they can say yes or no thank you everyone for the input. They say its not a conviction and others say it is. I'm not going to get a CCL I'm leaving it at home.

Here, take the quiz.... Its the same questions on form 4473 that you have to fill out when purchasing a gun.

That is what I would think, but I did a quick "test" and checked #3 (I have never been arrested just a "test") and when you submit the test it comes back with "Congratulations you have been cleared to purchase a firearm." :headscratch

It will be interesting to see if one of our "attorney types" can answer this question with the law posted.

A gun is not the only deadly weapon and they don't make a distinction between firearm or knife or another. I understand if you prefer not to disclose here on a public forum. Was there another weapon involved or were you truly unarmed?

We'll all be interested to see how this works out for you and if you are successful. Welcome to the forum.
