Everybody is getting into the spy game. Well, not Hertz....they're just putting cameras in their cars not to use them.
The device is often included as a free perk for Hertz’s “Gold” members, meaning Hertz is taking the risk of creeping out its most loyal customers with the camera eye in the car. When asked whether customers were informed there would be a camera in the car, or told under what circumstance it would be activated, Imperatrice again emphasized that the cameras had never been used. “The camera on our NeverLost 6 devices has never been active (hence, it is never on) and we have no current plans to activate the camera in the future,” she said by email.

Hertz can do whatever they want with their own cars, but I certainly don't consider the camera to be something that makes me want to rent their cars.

My last two rentals have had that dang camera. Usually they ask if you want always lost. Not the last two times. I've covered up the camera with my rental agreement paperwork. Going to start carrying a roll of electrical tape and leave it on the camera when I drop it off.

I wonder if the obvious one is the only one.

Outward facing cameras all over the place would make perfect sense, but the only potentially useful thing an inward facing one might ever do is catch the driver texting or with an open container.
