So I see questions about previous behavior and how it might affect CHL eligibility. I had an issue pop up when I was getting my Global Entry so was able to deal with it when applying for CHL.

For both GE and CHL, I find I hold myself to a higher personal standard now than I did before because I don't want to lose the privilidge. I don't do drugs but MAY HAVE considered driving when I shouldn't have or brought a few cigars into the country, etc. No way I do that now.

Any one else change or be made more aware of these things since getting a CHL?

Once you carry, you need to leave your temper in a deep freezer. The first word of advice, De-escalate and avoid trouble when trouble is following you. 2nd, stay aware and never be in the white zone when the zone is not white.

I think getting old or older helped more with this than getting my CHL. In my younger years there would have been many days when I wouldn't or shouldn't have carried. It wasn't an issue back then because it wasn't allowed for the most part.

I find that idiot drivers don't bother me anymore. They're still idiots, but I acknowledge that and let it go. Although that could be a function of aging. I also don't speed like I used to. The added upside is I probably won't be reporting any cool LEO traffic stop interactions.

Since I was a child I was always much stronger than others so I could never allow myself the luxury of being unable to control my emotions. That carried over into adult life so I cannot say that I related to such, but I do understand. Doing the right thing is a state of mind you choose or emotions choose for you.

It definately helped me ignore idiots on the road. I used to get so irritated and would try to get back at them. Now I just let it go.

For me, more age than CHL. I found out that if I got upset about drivers or traffic, I was the only one upset. As you said, they still drive like idiots and don't care if I am upset or not.

For me, the IRS scandal has changed my behavior (re: privacy protection) far more than getting a CHL.

Traffic problems in an 11 ton RV are a bit different than in a car. Occasionally someone still gets a dose of the air horn though I understand what an ineffective re-education tool it is. I often think that I'm less likely to find myself in a situation to need my EDC than I would have before my CHL. The learning curve that I've been on since helps me to avoid more places and conditions.

For me, it's an increase of situational awareness, which transfers to driving habits. I've been able to avoid a lot of stupid drivers with an increase of that.

Drive the speed limit, no more pressing it. Seems I get their just about the same anyway.

If I'm going to have a beer with lunch or wine with dinner, and I'm driving, I leave it at home.

Nope, except for an arrest for possessing beer in a city park in Nashville in '62 and a speeding ticket in Florida in '86, I've always been pretty straight.

If you feel the need to leave it at home, you really shouldn't drive either.
