Despite lower crime rates, support for gun rights increases
BY ANDREW KOHUT
For most of the 1990s and the subsequent decade, a substantial majority of Americans believed it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect gun owners’ rights. But in December 2014, the balance of opinion flipped: For the first time, more Americans say that protecting gun rights is more important than controlling gun ownership, 52% to 46%.

Good article, despite the fact I'm not a big fan of the title. (sounds like they are saying crime is down in spite of gun ownership and attitudes instead because of it).
Thanks for posting!

Yeah, the title is a bit misleading in my opinion. I guess when that's all you got, you change the headline.

Here is a good article. More African Americans are starting to realize they have to take responsibility to protect themselves as it doesn't work to rely on the police to protect them.
This is a good trend as I noticed in the public hearings and floor debate in the legislature many of the opponents to the open carry and even gun rights are minorities. One would think they also would be interested in protecting themselves but it seems like some are willing to succumb to the self defeating idea that someone else will protect them. We all have a right to protect ourselves and I am glad to see the trend.

Some other causes in my opinion.
1. Gun owners and gun rights advocates have been doing a good job of digging for and distributing data to debunk many of the myths that gun banners perpetuate.
2. The internet and forums like this have allowed gun owners to communicate political issues and their importance much more effectively than any other method. (with due respect to Tom Gresham's Gun Talk Radio reaching 20 years on the air)
3. The gun banners have been repeating the same myths over and over for 30 years. It gets old and the actual data has never supported them.
Lots of discussion around each of these, but I'll just leave it.

Yea Chicago machine was pretty disappointed that their 30 year rhetoric fell flat on its face after conceal carry passed there. Now most people don't even blink about it. The lies begin to catch up to the liars eventually.
