I wanted to see where everyone is on the CHL life cycle. This forum is exploding with new members every day. Just curious to how long many have been CHL'ers.

I was born in a far away state a long time ago. Back before the Gun Control Act of 1968. I had a concealed carry license at age 16. You could buy guns and ammo mail order and your friendly postman dropped em off at your front door. You could buy a gun at the hardware store.
You probably didn't need to carry back then. People were not getting shot up everywhere. If they ban concealed carry I'm not going to stop, not the way things are today. That's where I am.............,OE

I've had my CHL for a little over a year, now, but feel like I wasn't really "born" until about August or so, when I first joined here.
Learned more in the past 6-8 months...

I have had mine about a month and I intend to never let it lapse as long as I walk on this earth.

Just getting started here. I've filled out the online application, and I'm waiting for my packet from DPS. Once I get that, I'll take the class, and get to graduate to the waiting room.

I've had my CHL for just over a year. I've learned so much in that time.

My husband is about to get his. I'm hoping I can talk Mom into it, but since she works in a federal building and can't even have one in her vehicle while at work (and it's in a bad part of town), she's hesitant to bother with it.

Dad has had one since it became legal in 1996. (I think he took the class before then.)

My wife and I "fell through the crack" and had to renew between the time the law was passed changing the cycle to five years and its implementation, so ours are still four years. Waiting on the next renewal and senior citizens' discount.

I took an instructor class back in '95. I was able to carry until March of 2000.

Renewed in December 2006 and have been carrying once again since February 2007.

Now I'm wondering how many people on this forum have a CHL number between 00000001 and 00005000?

I would bet there are quit a few. There are several that got theirs in 95.

I have had mine since they became available. I believe that I took the class while I was 20 and turned 21 a few weeks later.

I was just curious.

This whole CHL issue was very important to me back in '94 and '95. Then for some reason, (I don't really know), it wasn't important anymore, so I let it lapse.

Now it's very important to me again, and I hopefully won't let it lapse ever again.

I thought it was a bit of irony that license #1 and #2 which were reserved for the Govenor and First Lady of Texas went unclaimed...Not even honorably awarded...

I still wonder about that today...

The way he was talking about it, I thought he and Mrs. Bush would go ahead and get theirs. Dr. Hupp should have had one reserved for her also. (She may have, I don't know).

I'll bet Mr. Cotton has a wee number.
