Is this legal to carry? Some say yes, some they wouldn't take the chance. It's not for me, I just carry a gun.

I would have to believe that falls under "illegal club"

I'm gonna say illegal. The way I see it, it is an illegal club with a light on it. The light does not make it legal. In the end you can beat the rap but not the ride. I wouldnt risk it. Id just carry a mag light if I needed to carry some sort of club. Sure they don't look as cool as that light but after being hit with either, you won't tell the difference.

So if I use a 3 D cell Maglite to defend my self it is legal? What is the difference with this? It's a light, that can be used improvised as a bat. Or is it a bat that has a light? If it said light bat or just light would it change anything? I know the light is just an attempt at a way around legality. Does it accomplish that?
Not being contrary just trying to ascertain rationale and legality of this and other similar devices.

Yup. Looks like a billy club with a built in flashlight to me. I sure wouldn't carry it, OR buy it for that matter. IMO, a better choice would be a 4D Maglite.

If I'm going to play in a softball game after work and I use my bat to defend myself it is completely legal. (It's legal whether or not I have to defend myself with it)
If I carry a mini baseball bat that says "Attitude Adjuster" on it (like my wife did before she moved down from OK) that's an illegal club.
There are grey areas, but I don't want to leave my freedom up to someone else's judgment.

I don't see the difference between this and the 6 D-cell maglights I used to have.

(1) "Club" means an instrument that is specially designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument, and includes but is not limited to the following:
(A) blackjack;
(B) nightstick;
(C) mace;
(D) tomahawk.
Yeah, I would say that thing is specifically designed for striking.
However, remember that you can have an illegal knife or club in your home or car.
Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

If you feel a jury wouldn't see the difference despite the name, marketing, and fact they won't sell to a half dozen states, give it a shot.

They'll sell it in Texas. It is poorly named. I've also seen similar objects that also have probes on the end and operate as a stun gun if an attacker gets close enough. And as Mr1337 points out, we can have one in our homes.

I have one, got it for Christmas, and it's one heck of a flashlight that I like having with me while camping but it is murky territory. I wouldn't carry it out and about any more than a baton but it has its uses (more than a baton anyway).

I would have thought the difference would be obvious, and also the reason you yourself stated that you wouldn't carry it.

My guess is that it's illegal to possess at all in the states they won't sell to, including in cars and homes, where that isn't the case in Texas.
No need to have one in my home or car, I'm reaching for something else in either of those cases.
