So I did what any reasonable person would do. I tore out my closet and turned it into a gun closet for all my over flow ammo and guns  My wife will be home soon I will be sleeping on the couch for a day or two but i will be worth it "rlol"

"rlol" Love it!

I've been working on my financial adviser/wife to let me do this with a spare room for about a year now. No major reconstruction or anything, but just a workbench and stuff for cleaning and possibly reloading. She hates it when I clean gun on the dining table.

My (walk-in) closet is bigger than yours. I am in the same trouble. "rlol" "rlol" "rlol"
It is good trouble to have especially to decide what to shoot next.

Uh oh. My spouse is out of town for three days and I have lots of time on my hands... Might need your spare couch.

OP: Good for you!

We became empty-nesters when our youngest moved out in October. We moved my wife's craft room (the "Magic Room" according to our granddaughter) to the bonus/game room, the exercise equipment into our son's former room (kinda, still have to disassemble/move/reassemble the treadmill), and created the "Armory" for me. No more reloading, cleaning, gunsmithing in the garage!

The move included an additional gun safe :thumbs2: and workbenches, and got all of my ammo and gear out of the master bedroom closet.

We are both very happy with the current state of affairs. ;-)

I thought of buying another safe but i live in galveston and we have houses on stilts. I did not want to drag a 700 pound safe up 22 feet of stairs. So I improvised. There will be a replacement door and im thinking of shoring up the walls .

What ever you do NEVER say those words to your wife, I ran out of room. Nothing good can come from that.

These work well, if you don't want to mount stuff to your wall:

You know, my gun closet looks zackly yours, and I have been planning the same thing.
Right now I have a small safe and a gun cabinet in there, plus shelves of ammo and accessories.
And a vacuum cleaner and two laundry baskets. :???:
I am Just waiting to find a 24" steel door and frame. Never thought that would be so hard to find

I've seen gun safes carried away by theives whole, so this is probably a better idea. It doesn't have to be expensive. Pexiglass for tornado proof windows are sold and cut for you per your instructions at Loews. Reinforce your door with this. Add a 2nd lock to the bottom of the door to prevent kick-ins. Buy a door jamb armor for $100 at Loews to reinforce the door jamb. Make the walls cinderblock or brick. That should be more theft proof than a gun safe. It doesn't have to be perfect, but just slow a thief down enough so that the cops will get there before they can make off with your guns. Be sure to have an alarm system set up by a professional alarm company.

My plan is 3/4" plywood lining all the walls and possibly the ceiling, screwed onto the existing sheetrock. Steel door and door frame.
Behind that closet is a 2-sink bathroom cabinet with all the plumbing in the walls. On the left is a 50-gallon water heater. The right wall is backed by a bedroom, so it's the only one with some exposure.
This would also double as a safe room for storms.
