Concealed in the car

I was told, during my chl class, that in Texas you may have a handgun in your vehicle, regardless
if you have a chl or not and it must be concealed.

Inside the console, in the glove box, under the seat, in your holster covered by clothing, on the
passenger seat under your cowboy hat, are these examples of concealed?

What if I have a rig that places my weapon next to my right leg, in a holster,
velcroed (sp) to the side of my console, am I asking for trouble?

By the way, just got my plastic yesterday and may have more questions later.

Your weapon can not be visible period. This will still be the case for vehicle carry after HB 910 goes into effect on Jan 1 if your weapon is off body.

Until 1/1/16, if the cop can see your gun, you are in violation - plain and simple. It's pretty black or white. Claiming that you thigh was hiding it is meaningless if he can see it when he walks up to your window. After 1/1/16 when OC goes into effect, it would be perfectly legal. Keep in mind though that with the new law, there will likely be a period of adjustment in which cops may respond differently to an openly displayed gun than they would to a concealed one...... so discretion is the better part of valor AND wisdom.

Amended to affirm what jmra said about off-body versus on-body. The openly displayed firearm must be in either a belt or shoulder holster.

I remember way back when, in GA, car carry was legal but only if completely visible.
Lawyers said the only legal car carry was suspended by string from the rear view mirror.

It is amazing that so many state laws are in exact opposition to each other.
