Searched on here and haven't seen much on the topic. The HHSC Commissioner has a policy that employees cannot carry to work. Given it's a state agency, and most buildings they aren't holding governmental meetings such as court hearings, legislative sessions, etc., is this even legal (setting policy that contradicts state laws)?

I have written the governor's office this morning out of pure frustration, and contacted the HHSC publication for more info (anonymously, as to not give my info to them to be red flagged).

Thoughts?

It is always legal for an employer to right rules that govern his employees behavior at work. This includes state employees and employers. The important part is that it is just an employment policy, so no one can be arrested for violating it, just fired.

The only law I know of that they must be careful of is the parking lot law allowing employees to have the gun in the car at work. There are a couple exceptions, but none I know of that would apply to the HHSC.
