"God Bless the USA"
I was fortunate enough to see him perform this song live onboard the USS Okinawa LPH-3 during Bob Hope USO tour during Christmas in Bahrain in 1987

Thank you for your service. I still get misty eyed with shivers when I hear it!

I do love the song, and it was a rallying ballad when I was in the TN Army National Guard back during the first Gulf War. Over the years, i still love the song, but the artist did seem like he 'sold out' when he changed the words for the Canadian version. I'm happy for our brothers in Canada, however...they have a great patriotic song as well.

Wow, I didn't know Okinawa was around that long. My BLT was embarked on her in 1970 in the South China Sea.
Happy 4th everybody.

They played that for us the next to last week of boot camp as a signal that all the bull was done. Not a dry eye in the company.
I've hated that song ever since. Didn't help when a few years later they tried to turn it into the theme song for Desert Storm/Shield.
I'll hear the first line, say "yup, I agree with that sentiment", and flip the channel as fast as I can.
