Flying Large Flags In The Bed Of A Pickup

Yesterday, I saw 3 different pickups flying large American and/or the Lone Star flags
in the bed of their pickups.
In the past, I've seen this done, but rarely.
Is this a trend of patriotism or plain ole "Hey, look at me, look at me, I'm special"!
By the way, each driver had that toothless, hillbilly look to him.

I believe they call them Rednecks.

Just kidding! I don't know the answer but have seen this also. Look forward to the answer. I'm surprised they don't get tagged for being a distraction or something similar.

Saw one of these at the Home Depot, flying both flags, a couple of days ago. At least he didn't have any 'balls' hanging from the hitch.

Maybe they drove their truck in the neighborhood 4th of July parade with the local cub scouts riding in the back on hay bales and throwing out candy and just forgot to take the flags off.

Maybe they are doing it to insult the liberals who if many of them had their way we would not be flying any flags because somebody, somewhere would be insulted by them......

Maybe, but I'm more inclined to believe they're like the OCTers who have a pathological need for attention.

It's very popular once you get to the coastal bend. Just about any day of the week, you can drive down the beach at Port Aransas and find some pickups hailing Texas, "Confederate", United States, Don't Tread on Me, and/or Come And Take It flags. It's especially popular with the "Rednecks" and Jeep Clubs that frequent, the jeep clubs I've seen like to set up a location, and fly the flags, including their own clubs flag.
There are plenty of young guys who drive around with ridiculous looking trucks, with giant nuts or balls hanging from their trucks, flying flags driving around. That crowd makes the rest of us look like idiots.
It was pretty traditional, that wherever we set up at the beach, from one or more of our trucks, we would raise the flags that we stood for, and it would tell people what kind of people we were. I doubt a rainbow flag group would want to pull up next to a bunch of trucks and suburbans with "confederate" and don't tread on me flags. I've done it for years, and any event we have in a public place, especially the big BBQ cook-offs, we raise the flags we stand for, so people know who we are and what we stand for.
I don't want attention, and I am sometimes reluctant to fly a flag for the thought of unwanted attention, but then I remember why we fly our flags, and I won't let somebody's opinion keep me from showing what I believe in with a flag. I might be one of the rare, decent, flag fliers, but it's become a tradition in my family and with friends.

Back where I grew up, these folks might not be considered 'typical', but they would also not be a fringe element either. Just simple, patriotic people. It's a decoration on the truck, no different from big tires, chrome steps or bumpers, or neon under the car.
I never joined in that type of revelry (I still drive a 14-year old pickup), but I don't really think that poorly of those who do.

I'd be curious to know how you arrived at the notion that anyone flying an American flag at any time, anywhere, equates to someone with a pathological need for attention? Would you rather they fly an ISIS flag?
Is this something learned in school nowadays? With all due respect, this sounds like something only a looney liberal college professor could come up with.
Does anybody remember the taunts of anti gun people who said anyone who needed to own a gun must have a pathological need to prove their virility? Really, I would say more, but I'd be violating forum rules to do so.

It's not the flag - it's the desperate need for attention.
I think most of these guys who mount these large flags that flap like mad as they hurtle down the road, look ridiculous.
That's my opinion, if yours differs, O.K. by me.

Why don't you start with guys in Afghanistan flying a flag on a vehicle? I'm sure they are just looking for attention. Who are you to judge people's motives for flying the flag of our country?
I'm done with this.

I do not believe in driving down a road with flags up, as it abuses the flags. And I understand that a vast majority of those flag totters in the jacked up shiny diesels that somebody's daddy paid for, rolling coal down the road, are just flaunting and trying to get attention because they enjoy it. I don't care for much of that crowd.
I don't try to get attention when I raise a flag, to me, it symbolizes what I stand for, and I do my best not to disrespect or abuse that flag. But most tote flags for attention, it is obvious. I would prefer that they be more modest, but that would be like asking them not to straight pipe their daddy's truck and not blow a smokescreen across the road in front of me... it just won't get through.
It is their right as much as it is mine.

That is a bit harsh on him, but I know that many do it for attention, and give no respect to the flags that they fly, nor understand what they mean. But I myself am far from condoning it, I just want people to be more respectful and modest about the way that they do it. But that's like asking for a democrat to be reasonable, it's not going to go over very well in most cases.
