Switching my carry gun to a G19

Been carrying a gen 3 G26 daily with a magazine extender making it the same grip length as a G19. Switching to the 19 with 5 xtra rounds for the same real estate seems like a no brainer. Not sure why it took me this long to figure that out.
Picked up a gen 4 G19 today. Snapped on the slim beaver tail backstrap on it and it feels pretty good. Added a set of my favorite night sights to get rid of the stock plastic ones. After a range trip tomorrow to verify that all is good, it will be my daily carry piece.
Obligatory crappy cell phone photo.
Anybody else not getting forum email notifications lately?

Just a question here. You do know that both G19 and G17 mags just slip right in a G26 don't you?
The 26 is smaller physically than the 19, but has exactly the same grip length as the 19 when you put a 19 mag in it. The 26 is far smaller physically than the 17, but has exactly the same grip length as the 17 when you put a 17 mag in it. For that matter, you can put the 30 round mag for a G18 In any of them as well.
Of course, if you just WANT a G19, that's a different story.

Sure, I mean I could put a 33 rounder in if I wanted...but I wouldn't carry it that way.
My point was that with the grip extension I had on the 26 mag, it was the same length as a 19, maybe even a tad longer. The only physical size difference, as configured, is a 1/2 inch of slide length which disappears down the holster anyway.
This is my 26, it's had a grip job, sitting atop of the 19.

I understand. I have a 27 so I get what you're saying. My point was carry the 26 without the extension and carry larger capacity mags as reloads.
I carry my 27 with a G32 (.357Sig) barrel doing that very thing. I have a Ruger SR9C which is the same size as the 26/27 and carry 17 round mags for reloads. In my case concealing the mags is easier than concealing the gun.
Of course, all of the "baby" Glocks are easier to grip with the extensions. I use Pierce +2 extensions so it isn't just added empty polymer. You'll love the 19 though. Probably the best shooting Glock of all.
I forgot to mention that you can drop a stock 19 barrel in a 26 so you get the same velocity advantage.

I'll do that at the range sometimes just to not have to reload so many times on the small 26 mags. I'd never considered carrying with a larger mag. Call it for aesthetics or whatnot.
I do wonder if there's any added torque on the exposed magazine in the daily grind (from IWB as an example) and would that have an adverse affect over the long term? Lip of the magazine perhaps?
What I haven't been doing is carrying a spare mag. Been reconsidering if I can make that work for EDC comfort.

I don't know about the torque issue since I've never carried that way either. I just got a double mag paddle type carrier. Very comfortable and allows 34 rounds for reloading. The way things are today, you never know when you might need them.

I carry a G23 and my spare magazine is for a G22.

That's been on my mind.

Nice setup. What brand is that magazine cover piece? Wouldn't work my current 26 since it's been 'candled', but would be a nice option to keep in mind.

Amen on that one. I hope I never need the ones in the pistol, much less reloads. However if I need them there they are.

Amen on that one, and one reason why I bought a G17 to supplement the G19 we already have.....although I bought it primarily to start playing at competition with it. (Yes, I said "playing at"......I'm in no way serious about winning, just want to shoot and enjoy the fellowship...)

I normally carry a Browning Hi-Power in a Crossbreed Supertuck but I've been carrying my son's G22 in my Remora for a couple days now. I am very surprised at how easy it is to carry. Even seems easier than my Hi-Power. I put them on our food scale and found the G22 weighs about 6 oz. less fully loaded. That must be the difference.
If I were to get a 23, 19 or 42, I probably wouldn't even realize I had a gun on. The size/dimension of the gun seems ALMOST irrelevant.
I think you made a good choice.

Now TAM...in my book, if you show up to compete in that hat you deserve to win something.

Put 250 rounds through it today. Ran great and I was generally pleased with my shot placement. May take the low profile backstrap off even though I'd lose the beavertail.
What are you guys running for defensive ammo? Have you changed your load out and why?
Thought I'd give Federal HST a try and have it loaded with the 124 grain. Have some 147 grain +P on order just see if I can tell a difference.
