Self defense insurance

Do you have any type of insurance specifically for self defense? This would include insurance and pre-paid legal services through groups such as [pre-paid legal], NRA, SCD, etc. I'm not asking for an endorsement of any organization so you don't need to say who it's with; just curious about how many people have it.

mloamiller,
Tried to vote, but for some reason the little circle thingamabobs aren't there to put your vote in.

I did at one time, when I first got my CHL, but don't anymore, so I voted no.

Yes, I do. I subscribe to one of the pre-paid legal services. It's just like many other types of insurance to me. Doesn't cost much, but has the potential to save me a ton of money, maybe literally my life savings some day. Yes, it's highly unlikely that I would ever need it, but just like any other insurance, I sure would be glad I have that service if that day ever did come.
But certainly to each his own. That's one of the great things about living in a free country - you get to make your own choices (well, you know...).

I used to have one of the prepaid legal services, whose name forum owners and moderators forbid discussing. I let my membership lapse but I am thinking of reinstating it or perhaps going with another service.
I am not an expert in TEXAS LAW and I really have no idea which is better than the other or exactly how much you can rely on them. It's not exactly the same as car insurance. I've never had to use it and don't know anyone who has so I really don't have a baseline to go on other that what they claim to be.
My reasoning for considering these types of service is:
1. I don't know of any lawyers that advertise specifically for this type of specialization so it's difficult to find one otherwise.
2. At least you would have someone to call after an incident who could most likely, at the very least, handle the initial counsel/get you out of jail/preserve your rights/stop you from mishandling it yourself, saying and doing the wrong things and causing yourself potential damage to your case/SHIELD you from police questioning/being coerced to giving up your rights. This alone would be worth the yearly fee.
3. I don't have to put all my eggs into one basket just because I paid for their service. I can retain other counsel if needed. If the service proves to be less than adequate at least it buys me a little time to retain other counsel.
4. If the benefits of the service prove to be as advertised then the cost/benefit is worth it. But that's the thing with insurance is you pay for something you hope to never have to use and with this type of insurance it's a bit of a gamble.
5. With any lawyer, it's a bit of a gamble, you will have to trust them. Unless you know outstanding lawyers with a specialization in the self defense area, it's as good a guess as any, pick any name out of a phone book. Do you really want to be picking any name out of a phone book from jail?
6. To date no one has been willing or able to offer any referrals to any appropriate counsel. If you know of any please pass along the info. I would love to have a counselor at the ready just in case. Prepaid legal or otherwise. You might have to pay a retainer fee with a private counselor and still be on the hook for legal fees. So at worst it's 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.

That might be because you're not logged in. I just noticed the same thing myself.

My Self-Protection
Insurance I guess has "added coverage." my "umbrella" would be my BUG or second Glock 26 and spare mag for either Primary or Secondary g26 ... and for added protection/coverage, my 5.5" blade knife I suppose.
That's it.

I am a member of one of these services, but I neither endorse nor condone These Legal Services.

mloamiller,
They're there after all, just not where they used to be located and I apparently have tunnel vision...

I have it, it's nice to know that I have someone to call during the initial proceedings, after I get my feet under me I can make other arrangements if necessary

I don't have it. I might one day consider the NRA program as I believe it is more up front about what it actually does.
It looks like we will finally get to see how good the lawyers are for one of them.

Same here. I don't use a legal service, and my BUG is known as Mrs. Vol Texan around these parts.
