Fingers Crossed

I work for a fairly large city. Yesterday we had a meeting/seminar with the head of HR. At one point, she brought up the fact that come January 1 open carry becomes legal in Texas. She went on to state that due to Texas law we (the city) could not post signs keeping legal gun holders from entering city buildings. What surprised me and got me feeling optimistic is that they(HR), along with the city attorney and possibly city council are looking into allowing licensed city employees to carry CONCEALED. Some other interesting points I took from this meeting was, one, that she had just moved to Texas from California three years ago and was "pro-gun", and two, that of the 12 people in the meeting 4 already have their CHLs and one is in the process of getting his. I told her that I think it is crazy that any "Joe CHL" off the street can walk into my office with his gun, but I cannot and she agreed. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath, but I do have my fingers crossed that our policy changes in the near future. I think that this may be a positive side effect (at least for me) of open carry passing. :thumbs2:

Good luck, man. Hopefully you guys get the ability to defend yourself! It's nice to see that not everyone associated with city government is a closed minded bureaucrat.

txglock21,

I'm surprised she knew the number of CHLs and who was in the process of getting one.

Presumably, they all trust her and told her of their CHL status.

She didn't tell us, she asked, but said we didn't have to say if we didn't want to. I knew already that myself and two of the others had them, was just surprised that almost half of the room had theirs. There may have been even more, but didn't feel comfortable "coming out". lol

I see this as excellent news. For a large city to consider such a move, is like planting a seed that once implemented, other cities across the State will follow suit. In today's violent world it makes sense.

I hope it goes well for you txglock21. Please keep us posted. :thumbs2:
