Comerica Bank Anti-Gun

This is a first for me. I have been banking at Comerica for many years. I was walking in the local Katy bank at Fry and I-10 and they had a new set of double entry doors. I noticed the first door was very heavy and then I noticed what appeared to be an unmanned metal detector. As I proceeded toward the second door, an alarm went off, the second door locked, and a computer voice said, "go back and empty out your pockets of all metal objects". I then noticed a small sign that said "weapons of any kind are not allowed in bank" I could not even get past the second door to enter the bank. (I tried to open the door and it was locked with a red light displayed.) I wanted to go in and tell them I was legally carrying a handgun and I would change banks before I disarm. Now my only option is to try a different branch to close my account or disarm for my final visit. :banghead:

Holy cow. This is a whole new level of stupid, not to mention a customer service nightmare. Glad I don't bank there - I hate switching banks.

Wow! Just wow! Next thing you know, you'll have to take your shoes off, take your belt off, empty your pockets of EVERYTHING just to get into the bank to do some banking business??? That's just as bad as the Tarrant County courthouse.

Sorry you had to go through that. I'd have to change banks.

The worst part is that you won't really know for certain if they're anti gun until you speak with a manager and see what the response is. They would most likely just put up a 30.06 rather than make exceptions to the screening process.

Unfortunately, I expect to see more banks in the Houston area beginning to use those types of measures to thwart bank robberies.

Should of said you had a metal hip. Even better, a belly button piercing. :biggrinjester:

Did they have a place for you to safely store your pocket contents while in the bank, or did they expect you to go back to your car and leave everything (including your keys) in your car?

You must be able to think of a better reason to avoid Comerica Bank than this.

Why not find a local community bank that will welcome you with open arms, where you will be whatever size fish you are in a smaller pond, you might even know the manager and be able to call him whenever you wish during business hours, and maybe other times as well?

I won't recount here the many appalling instances of malevolent idiocy I have endured or observed at the hands of the big banks. Unless you need to borrow $500 million or so, there is no advantage whatsoever in dealing with them.

Call the bank, tell them you are closing your account(s) and what must you do. When they say come in and fill out paperwork, you tell them you cannot come in. Maybe they can send someone out to your car, or maybe they have an auto lane.

I am the OP.....that is a good question. The voice just said place all metal items in the tray. Maybe someone comes out and looks at them. I did not get that far. I just walked out. If you ask and they tell you no guns, then you have verbal notification. I think I will call from a pay phone.

Hmmm.

My office is in the Comerica Bank building in Sugar Land. I hope this doesn't take roots and encourage a 30.06 posting.

You get searched before you can enter the bank, interesting.

I've banked at Comerica for years. My local branch is the same as it's always been. No issues here. I hope it doesn't spread...

I was in a Comerica branch today. Because of this thread, I really searched
the entrance, doors, foyer etc for any type of "no gun" sign. I found none.
Business as usual. I interacted with a teller and a bank officer. Very pleasant
and I hope it stays that way. If not, I hate moving accounts, but I have no
loyalty to any financial institution, and I'll move to another more friendly to
concealed carry bank if need be.
