I went to Galveston for a wedding this past weekend, and was hanging out in front of the chapel waiting for the bridesmaids/bride to show up (limo was off schedule). I got to talk for a bit to minister and the Galveston PD officer working security, and got my first chance to get a good glance at a policeman's sidearm during the conversation. To my surprise, it was cocked and locked. I asked him if he was carrying a 1911, and he said he that yes, it was a Springfield. I complimented him on his sidearm and mentioned that it's fairly rare to see as a service pistol. He said that there were several on his force that carry a 1911, including his supervisor. Here's to Galveston PD and good taste in sidearms!

I shoot at the range that the Galveston PD uses. I asked one of them whether they are required to use specific ammo. He said they weren't, and they can choose the service sidearm they carry.

Wow! Then that explains why so many of my friends on the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department carry Glocks, Sigs, XDs and others. Even the high Sheriff himself carries a Glock.

I was eating lunch at the Schlotzsky's in Nederland. Two of them ate lunch at the table next to me. That is what they told me when we were talking about their carry weapons and our love for Kimbers.
Sorry all of your friends do not carry their Kimbers.
