I constantly see discussions of AR15 Zero distances, here's a good video and PDF presentation.

Edit 8/31/15

For 16" barrels, M193 55gr and M855 62gr have very similar trajectories close enough to identical to use them interchangeably for practical use.

Also for you AK guys the AK-74 5.45x39 7N6 is supposed to have the same trajectory as the M855???

And for AR pistols/SBR at least 11.5" barrels, from my AR15.com interweb research indicates a 50yd zero recommended.

Also see article for barrel length/velocity.

I think 25yrd is too aggressive. 50yrs is more realistic. I wished he mentioned the MPBR for each zero case. With iron sights, 300-400 yrds are max for my eyes when shooting man-sized target.

I think you could easily guesstimate MPBR for each zero from the info given. It's easier to review with the PDF file. It also depends on how much +/- is within your definition of MPBR. For me +/- 3" would be ideal, for a 50 yrd zero, 4" drop at 300, so I say 300 is MPBR at for 50 yd zero. At 400 just aim for the head and get to get a hit on the chest. On a silhouette target of course. :biggrinjester:

I like the 50 yard zero and set my EoTech for that.

I will probably be off more left/right than up/down due to bullet drop anyway.

It's a good tool to show that a COM shot at up to 200 yards will still hit pretty much COM.
