I really wanted one of the new Ruger Precision rifles but they are too hard to get right now. I keep asking myself why I would need a long range rifle when PSC only has ranges up to 300 yards. I had talked myself out of getting the Ruger Precision but then one of my wholesalers had one Savage 12 LRP come in stock early one day last week. I fought the urge for a few seconds but gave in quickly and ordered it before someone else beat me to it. I had to sell a couple guns to pay for it and the accessories (brass, dies etc.) but so far it was worth it.
It weighs in at around 13 pounds with the scope, the trigger pull was 2 lbs. 4 ounces out of the box. I gave it a few cursory patches down the barrel to remove some of the remnants of the factory test fire, moved my Nightforce 4-14 SHV over from my Sig 716 to the Savage, loaded up some test ammo, grabbed the two boxes of Winchester match ammo and headed to PSC. After 8 shots to get it sighted in I shot my first three round group with the Winchester match ammo, it was almost in the same hole (I had one set of handloads that were shooting the same as the factory ammo). Needless to say I was pleased with how it shoots. I ended up firing 20 rounds of factory ammo and 21 rounds of handloads I was playing with. I ran out of ammo before I could head to the 200 and 300 yard range.
This week I went to the 300 yard range at PSC and fired two groups. I never realized that I cannot see my holes at 300 yards with my spotting scope so I was not even certain I was hitting the target I set up. I aimed at two different points hoping I would hit the target. It turns out I had three shots in a little over an inch at 300 yards with one group, the other group was larger but this lets me now what the rifle is capable of when I do my part. Hopefully I can get the image to load, I always forget how to do that.

.36 MOA at 300 yards qualifies this rifle as a real shooter. Nice!

I bought one of those several years ago. I was really wanting the rifle in 260 but none were available. The 6.5 creedmoor was new then and people were not interested in them but I bought it anyway as I wanted a long range rifle. So glad I did. My results have been the same as yours. These are amazing rifles for the money and the 6.5 Creedmoor is an excellent cartridge. I took it out to Bayou Rifles 1000 yard range to see what it would do there and it ate up that distance. Cold bore shooting with mine is dead one. There are some good one and two day classes to in our area to learn how to use the rifle.

I am trying to avoid getting into the long range shooting, I do not have the time or money to invest and I know if I started I would get consumed with it. As crazy as it sounds I am taking this rifle hunting this year or next.

It will more than likely be used on those feral hogs, last year I saw one out 500-600 yards and I needed this rifle! It was the only hog I saw that day and I could not hit him.

First response from the Ruger distributor (in Canada) is that this is within Ruger's tolerances. HAH!

I have written Ruger directly and am waiting for a reply. I own 7 other Ruger firearms, never had a problem. Maybe there is so much demand for this hyped product that the QA is suffering. If I don't get satisfaction from Ruger, I will return the rifle and buy a Savage 12 LRP. Trouble is I have already bought an Atlas bipod which mounts on a Picatinny rail.

Any suggestions for an upgraded stock for the Savage 12?

I did not mean to offend anyone. If Ruger does not solve my problem, I will return the rifle and buy a Savage model 12 in 6.5 CM.

I was asking about an upgraded stock for the model 12.

I don't see a need to change the stock, the factory stock works fine. I guess it depends on what you are using it for.

Why does it matter to you? Are you having a bad day or something? I have seen a couple of your posts and you are a bit confrontational in your replies. There are probably numerous threads that get off topic here.

I found your forum by Googling Ruger Precision Rifle. The first entry in this thread talks about the RPR and also the Savage model 12 which is my alternative if Ruger does not come through with a fix for my RPR. I am committed to the 6.5 CM caliber as I have bought my Redding precision dies, 200 rounds of Hornady ammo for break-in, 1000 Amax140 grain bullets and lots of Hodgdon 4350 powder.
I have bought a Vortex PST 6-24 FFP scope, precision rings and an Atlas bipod.
Only missing a rifle! As I said, I ordered it in July, very disappointed that I have not yet fired it.
