I think you're close...I heard about this, just this morning...
They reported it to be more of a "ok, give me money and I'll just make you a licence/plastic..."
Like that is really going to pass muster if you have to show it...
Don't know why people even consider shucking the system on this one...
And those people who recieved those licences need a little heat on them as well...They know what the heck they were doing! I wouldn't buy them playing dumb of this either...

Quote: "The allegations are that he falsified documents that his students performed hours or accomplished the necessary tests to carry a concealed weapon under our law," said Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal, whose office led the investigation along with the Houston Police Department.
Undercover officers posing as students in Jue's classes were able to obtain licenses without completing the required hours, Rosenthal said. He declined to release further details."
Hmmmm.... Mr. Rosenthal in the news again from another angle ...
IF the Deputy is proven indeed guilty as charged, I'd be at the head of the line saying "Make him pay." But, methinks DPS normally investigates such themselves ... As does Texas Parks and Wildlife, who busted a schoolteacher a few years back for selling hunter ed. certifications without doing the requisite hours ...

When I took my CHL class, I was as green as a handgun student could get. My classmates weren't exactly advanced either. What most of us knew about the class requirements were what the instructor told us.
I had only one person in my life that could have possibly told me different (my dad), and he took from the same instructor. Had the instructor told us wrong, we would both have been misinformed.
ETA: Remember, not everyone reads as much as forum members here. Not everyone will get near a computer. Let's not be too quick to judge his students.

You have to sign an affidavit that says you have read and understand the CHL law and penal code.
Granted, not everyone has good reading comprehension, and the 10-hour course requirement is buried in a lot of verbiage.
I think the real problem in this case was that word got around that this guy was selling TR-100s to people who hadn't taken the class (we can only guess, because the news stories are inaccurate).

You're right, I should not have come off as harsh as I did...But with what I saw on the news, the way it has been presented in a couple other places I have seen out there...
It just smells too much to not be critical of all aspects of the case...
I guess I just don't like what this could do to my friends who are instructors, that go to absolute great lengths to conduct their classes in the right way...
Echhh, its just me (attitude) I suppose...It just bothered me...Hit me at a bad moment...I'll get over it...

One of the DPS instructors at the recent CHL Instructors course in Austin mentioned that such a case was under investigation by DPS. I'm assuming that the investigation was wrapped up at that time, or he would not have mentioned it.
