I realize that was a very specifc question, and you didn't ask for advice, but I have to ask why you would want to do that?

If I may humbly interject as well... Why would you want to open carry a mag (or two, or three)? I come from the school of thought that says if you're not on your own private property or sporting a badge, nobody needs to see your gun. Me personally? If I'm put in a situation where a guy holds up a 7-11 (or something to that effect), I want to be the "dumb, scared" guy who he doesn't focus on, not the "gun toting, cowboy" he sees as a threat.

I hesitate to interject here. But on occasion I have done so. I have a magazine pouch that looks very similar to the pouch for my Gerber multi-tool. I don't know how an observer could tell what was inside. I will say it is usually covered by my shirt; but on occasion it's not.

Legally yes you can. But is it wise, to me no. Think of it this way, if you have your magazine out in the open most people will belive that you have your handgun on you. Do you want the extra eyes looking at you trying to find where it is? For me the answer is no.

I agree with S&W6946. I have collected several knife pouches that do a good job of concealing what's inside. It makes it very easy to carry one spare mag in the open without drawing undue attention.

If the knife case conceals the mag so you can not recognize it as a magazine then it is concealed and not open carried and not as easily accessible as one that is truly open carried.

A generic fanny pack is intended for wallets and other girlie stuff. If it conceals a handgun so it can not be seen it is therefore concealed and not open carried. A handgun in a holster on your hip ready to draw is open carried.

I would consider a magazine "open carried" if it was in a magazine pouch - not covered by a flap.

Maybe just semantics - or just something to banter about.
