Maybe a dry run?

Saw this in the Yahoo KERA news feed this morning and it has me wondering. Like maybe they were testing police response. Doesn't say anything about the "men" involved. Any one else heard anything on it?
Two men carried guns and wore bulletproof vests on the Katy Trail – and that created a scare. The Dallas Morning News reports police got 911 calls from callers Tuesday evening and more than a dozen officers looked for them. The weapons weren’t real and the men didn’t break the law. “But with what’s going on in society, in Oregon and all these other mass shootings, when people see men who are armed — heavily armed — that can incite fear,” Sgt. Warren Mitchell, a Dallas police spokesperson, told the News. “That’s not a good practice, especially in an area of recreation, where children could be. We want to make sure people feel safe and secure while they’re doing their activities and spending family time. Gunmen out for a stroll — it’s not illegal, but for society, in this day and time, it’s not a good practice.” [The Dallas Morning News]

I have zero respect for anyone that resorts to these kind of tactics to get attention. They really don't help the cause for sure. These guys should have been stopped and questioned. Wearing vest and walking around fully armed is not usual behavior and was done for one and only one reason. If they were dressed in hunting attire I bet we wouldn't be reading about it now. If I see someone dressed in tactical gear including a vest and it doesn't say Police, FBI, DEA, or some other law enforcement group on it I'll probably be dialing 911 myself. I'd probably ask them what they are doing first. lol This is in my honest opinion. IMHO

Do you have a link? Because the article is typical sloppy or distorted reporting. But Yahoo, so I guess saying that is redundant. Did the police find these guys? If not, how do we know they weren't wearing paintball vests? Joe Public knows what a "bullet proof" vest looks like on sight? I don't buy it. The police called body armor a Hollywood term, or was that terminology better for the narrative, or due to the ignorance of the reporter? If they didn't have real guns how can they have been "heavily armed?" If I have a BB gun that looks like an M4 would I be "heavily armed?" Lot's missing from a screed that can barely be described as "journalism."

For the same reason they carried a plastic pistol into the capitol building or stood on a street corner with an AR at low ready: because they can.

The fact that its a horrible idea doesn't enter into the thought process for the clowns that pull stunts like this. The fact that its tarnishing the image of gun owners in this state wouldn't dawn on them, because they don't care. They have an opportunity to get noticed without breaking the law...so they take it. Once they're done creating a new YouTube video, they crawl back under their rocks until its time to get some more hits

Well, it looks like they got the attention they wanted and gave DMN another opportunity to write a snarky little article about how dumb gun laws are.

Glad you found that AndyC. My initial search failed to find anything other than the KERA blurb. Looks like a pair of idiots out to get attention.
