Right eye dominant

I had a strange thing happen with me last weekend when I went to the range. I was trying to break in my new TRP and also try to get some decent groups. I typically, shoot with both eyes open and focus on the front sight. Several times, my left eye took over and I was looking at an angle down the length of the pistol. Stop, close both eyes, open and get a new sight picture and all is good for a bit until it happened again. I've never had this happen before. I'm definitely right handed and right eye dominant so I guess a trip to the optometrist is in my immediate future.
I did manage to get a couple hundred rounds of round nose and XTP down the barrel. Wow! There won't be any regrets over this purchase.

The human eyesight is a sensation. There are many factors contributing to proper eyesight.
Malnutrition, drugs, alcohol and diseases like diabetes, high fever and much more can cause symptoms like you described.
I would go to my physician for a thorough check including blood test and describe the symptoms. If it happend just once it may not be so bad but watch out if you experience this issue repeatedly.
I had west nile fever in 2012 and lost my eyesight completely. It started slow, I saw black dots, had light fever for a few days. It is more than three years ago now and my eyesight returned to a point where I can live an independent live again.
If I'd be you I'd go to the doctor asap because they can detect early indicators for west nile virus/ fever or any other problems.

That's scary. I hadn't considered that it might be anything more than needing to update my prescription and get a new pair of bifocals. Tomorrow seems like a good day to go get an eye exam. Thanks for the friendly nudge.

It may also be that your brain is learning how to "switch-hit" with eye dominance.
I have one of my rifles set up for long distance shooting, so I have installed a bubble level on the left side of the scope, just in front of the parallax knob. When I shoot, I keep both eyes open so I can aim through the scope with my right eye and use my left to make sure the scope (and so, the rifle) are level. I've almost gotten to the point where I can do both, simultaneously.
An extra side benefit is that when I go to use a pistol with my left hand, it takes almost no conscious thought for me to sight with my left eye. That's pretty amazing for a guy that has always been so right-centric that I can barely scratch an itch with my left hand.

My son is in LE and he is right handed, but left eye dominant. After not doing good at all on the range. They had him turn the gun slightly to the left (gangster style almost) and scores perfect on each qualification. He flash been a full time LEO for 6 1/2 years now.
