Now that I have your attention, s are OK & even encouraged. and are legal often & at any time now.

Walked around the corner of the Sanctuary Sunday evening before church & was struck suddenly & hard by two simultaniously. One got me on the left side of my head just above my ear & the other about 3" lower & a little more to the rear. As I fought them off my head one went to my left hand just past my little finger & stung me there while the other went to my right arm & got me just above my elbow.

I managed to get some distance & therefore time to properly respond. I immediately went to the storage cabinet & got 2 cans of wasp & Hornet spray. On the way out I enlisted the help of one of our teens that is quit fleet of foot. We found 2 small holes about 6 ft apart in the eve of our old building. They were using both. 2 were still standing guard over the hole I had just passed. Probably the 2 that just got through w/ me. They are no longer with us. If there is a heaven for red wasp.
Several started trying to escape from the other hole due to no air to breath. Trey got 5 as they came out unwilling to surrender. They were never able to really mount another serious assault. I got 2 more from my end making a total of 9 bad guys that will never bother anyone again.

A few things were verified that we know to be true:
I was carrying my Tauras T-85 .38sp, under authority of my Texas CHL & had my KerShaw 1550 in my back pocket but empty hands was still my best & 1st defense.
PD response time is not sufficient to get there in time to help at all.
Better awareness may have prevented or at least decreased the severity of the assault.
No matter how aware you are, there is still a possibility of being snuck up on.

Man, my head still hurts today.

Dang it LT...I'm sure glad your ok...I'm not a big fan of stinging insects either...

And this is not something we'd hear about on the news...

I guess there are some things on this planet who they just don't have a clue who they are messing with...

OUCH! They're bad in the summer, too.

I've got both a yellow jacket's nest & a wasp's nest in my tool shed. I told dh that we need to set off foggers in there, but it looks like I'll have to do it if it's going to get done. I think he killed a few nests around the eaves of the house while he was painting this weekend.

Keep some Benadryl cream on the wounds until they heal.

I'm glad you were able to find the teens to go to war with you on this one. It's always good to have back-up.

OTC antihistamines (Benadryl or Chlortrimeton or the like) may help with swelling. Hang in there!

.38 snake shot might have saved the day, but collateral damage (to building and/or personnel) might have been worse than the actual stings.

So, what kinda holster you use for that Raid Wasp & Hornet? Being a .45ACP guy, I assume you carry the 17.5-ounce version...

I got one on my nose about a week ago while mowing - doused the sting with pickling vinegar right away, then applied hydrocortisone. It was no worse than a fire ant sting within a few hours, and went away in a day or two.

It really made me wish I had a ratshot load first up in the .357, but with only five shots anyway, I'd hate to forget and go out on the street with only four effective ones in the gun. As it was, I found starter fluid and a barbecue lighter before the wasp spray, and the nest was in a relatively non-flammable area, so they got roasted. I think that made me feel better quicker than the vinegar/hydrocortisone combo.

I got three on my hand while welding this weekend. They defended my hand heroically to the death.

Well what about OC, pepper spray, anyone know if it will kill wasps and bees? Of course if the wind is against you it might make your day worse.
Let us know if you've used OC to defend against bugs or snakes.

OC does not affect insects at all, as far as I know. In fact, I believe it only affects mammals. I've seen many a grocery store bin of Hananero and Thai Chili peppers covered in flies feeding on the peppers. Birds also feel no effect from Capsaicin, which is how many peppers spread seeds. As reptiles are physiologically similar to birds (and are also not mammals), I do not believe that OC would affect them in the slightest, and would likely be counter-productive against a snake.

You know I could almost picture LT taking some very well aimed shots at the eaves there at his church!

One sting and I head for the nearest hospital. I have an Epi-Pen, but the last time I got stung, just as I was entering my house, it was actually quicker for me to head for the ER than to get out the pen, I live just a few hundred yards from the ER.

I am so ashamed. For that weapon I run w/ the folks that always have it in the truck. Told them in no uncertain terms, "Yall just wait till I get back here w/ my spray gun."

Yep, Benadryle has been my best friend. Still have 2 big ol knots on my head. Hand is better & arm is plumb OK. He was outa bullets by the time he got there.
