For the shooting part of the the CHL exam, are you required to prove you can safely draw and re-holster your pistol?

No. All of your shooting will be done from the ready position.

We had a partner that stood behind us and loaded our magazines with the proper number of rounds

My instructor would only allow a holster on the line if the pistol could be holstered with the slide locked back. Otherwise you just laid it on the ground while you were loading.

I didn't realize at the time the quality of service my instructor provided. He brought out small folding tables which were placed between two shooters on which we placed our weapons while reloading.

But, no drawing from holsters. As mentioned above, all shooting was from a ready position.

Not when I got mine. We weren't even allowed to bring our guns into the classroom. My class was at an indoor range with counters in each booth. You had to load your own magazines. I thought this was part of it and something that was observed by the instructor. He was amazed at how well my wife loaded her magazine. I taught her well. Don't tell her I said that.

As others have said nope. At mine we those blue plastic barrels, one per two shooters. Girlfriend was at an indoor range and so had the typical bench/table thing. The Wall, my girlfriend took my uplula loader. The instructor was surprised she knew how to work it. Evidently she was one of the few people they had ever seen that had used it before they got to class.

My instructor was great, just a small town, something like 8k in the city I took the class in 2k in the one I live in. We did our shooting at the city police range out in the middle of nowhere, being a police range they didn't need tables to hold theirs, they have holsters. You could bring out your case or anything else to lay it on if you wanted. I actually used my holster, just didn't draw from it to shoot.

When I took the NC test in the mid/late 90's, drawing from a holster and firing a timed course of fire was required.

On the day of my test, I couldn't find my only OWB holster, a Yaqui slide. Wound up shooting from a shoulder rig that I used only when hunting. Got a stern warning from the Deputy giving the class that if I muzzled anyone even once I'd be tossed. Everyone shot simultaneously.... 10 or so of us in a row. No pressure.
