rebuffing the 30.06 postings - take a stand!

I just had a stroke of genius...maybe.
My wife is taking her aunt to the medical center on a regular basis. She was in a near fatal accident with an uninsured driver. There is quite an indigent population that hangs out just a block or two from the parking garage (Fannin/Cambridge area by the zoo). Today, some guy approached my wife and her uncle and asked for money (apparently in or around the hospital). She said “no” and then he went on to tell her how she must be a republican and she’s some rich white bitch. Her uncle then pulled out his wallet and only had 100s and my wife told him to put his wallet away.
My first thought was “where was your gun?” My second thought was “Oh ya, they have the 30.06 posting at the hospital so it was in your car.”
So that got me to thinking. Many of these hospitals have the signs posted and many are in areas I would normally really want to have my gun (I have it with me all the time anyway, so that’s a bit rhetorical). What we CHL holders should do is insist that hospital security walk us to our cars because we don’t feel safe. It’s a dark, unsecured garage very near the vagabonds. Imagine if we asked for a security escort to our car and they refused…and then we got assaulted or mugged! HUGE lawsuit. So they walk us to our car and eventually they ask why they’re doing that. We explain that in any other location, we are allowed to defend ourselves but the hospital has usurped that privilege (I mean, right) and therefore incurs a responsibility to replace that sense of safety.
In fact, I believe I remember that you are allowed to have your gun at work unless your employer has a “no guns” policy. And if he denies your right, then he has an added bit of liability to provide protection for you. I forget if that was in our CHL class or some legal article I read, but I’ve heard that before. Same should apply to hospitals and others posting the 30.06 signs.
Eventually, maybe these 30.06 postings will start to come down. When people realize the burden they place on themselves having to take the extra step to ensure our safety, perhaps they’ll rethink the “responsible citizen” issue. If you are refusing my right to protect myself, then perhaps you should protect me in exchange.
I can imagine the news headlines if it became an issue. And imagine the headlines if the story was "Woman Gets Raped After Hospital Refuses Security Escort". It'd take just one multi-million dollar lawsuit to change their tune.
I'm just surprised my wife and her uncle didn't get jumped after he foolishly flashed that cash.
