I'm looking at the idea of keeping my new truck gun in a nylon bag that originally was the bag that came with the purchase of a folding chair.

It looked like a perfect disguise for my carbine, then I realized, it potentially may invite rust as nylon (I looked the tag on the bag to be certain it's nylon, but couldn't find any info describing what the material really is), but it looks and feels like nylon.

What say you?

Do you think it'll invite rust or not?

I would be very tempted to keep the gun in a gun sock inside the nylon bag. I would also be sure to take the gun out of your truck weekly and check / apply a protectant. Another thing to consider is whether the bag is breathable. You don't want to trap humidity inside the bag.

I would also put some desiccant packs in the bag.

I used to keep mine in a zippered soft case in my cross-bed tool box. I found this method made the gun much more prone to rust ( it's a GI .30 Carbine). I now have it laying on top of a old jacket that keeps it from rubbing on any metal ( in the cross bed tool box). I have no rust issues with this method. I take it out once a month or so and wipe it down with gun oil, other than that, I do nothing else and have no rust issues regardless of the time of year.

One thing and I'm not sure about this idea either, but simply lay it on a blanket, pull the rest of the blanket over it.

I think humidity wouldn't be much of a factor using this approach, and maybe it'll just look like a blanket on the floor...maybe.

I have 2 things in mind: 1. Keep the rifle immediately accessible
2. Not look like what it is and attract a thief.

If you really want to protect it from rust and have it stay that way maintenance-free, then simply break it down and vacuum seal the upper and the lower.

This is what I would suggest.

I keep an AR in a cheap nylon soft zipper case that I punched some grommets in and then zip tied to my back seat frame to keep it from sliding around. I have kept a RRA 16" Midlength carbine in there for 4-5 years now. Never had a problem with rust, but I am in Fort Worth. If I were in Galveston, that might be different,

I've used these off and on for years, and they work great. After you have cleaned the gun, wipe it down with the silicone cloth. The silicone coating left behind will keep moisture from reaching the metal, and it doesn't contain any acids like some oils do. It also helps to condition plastics.
