Ruger apparently has a new pistol out called the American Pistol. Looks bigger and wider than the SR9. Anyone know anything about how they compare?

No idea, but you can test fire the Ruger for free.

The closest range to me is still 133 miles, so I'm going to have to pass on their offer, but you may be luckier.

Ya KC5AV,
I saw that and thought about making that trip, but it is a bit of a drive for me also - not nearly the drive you would have to make. Although I don't own one, I like the SR9 and think it is a underrated pistol. It is thin, has good trigger when tuned up and has low recoil. This new Ruger American looks to be thicker, but pictures can be deceiving. I guess the trigger is the feature they seem to be pushing.

I had a chance to look at one and shoot one. Not impressed. Trigger is a little better than SR9, but not that much better and reset doe snot seem any shorter. The new pistol is wider than the SR9. The interchangeable grip is nice, as is the ability to pull the fire controls out of the frame, but overall I think the SR9 is a better pistol.

I would have loved for Ruger to have taken the same approach with the SR9 series that they did with the LC9.
Take the SR9 which is very nice to shoot and make a SR9Pro by losing the manual safety, mag disconnect and toning down the loaded chamber indicator. They would have had a real winner :)
