Gotta be careful going into restraunts and convienience stores. It's a 4th degree felony!
Indian reservations and State and FederaL parks are off limits.
Rest areas OK though.

Open Carry is allowed.

Anywhere alcohol is sold, that is.

Yes, "sold", even in package form for off-premises consumption. They can't do the "Wally Walk" there, because most Wal Mart stores sell beer and are thus off limits.

And now, the good news: That changes at midnight tonight! Effective July 1, licensees will be allowed to carry that firearm into a licensed liquor establishments that sell alcohol for off premises consumption. Bars and restaurants that sell beer and wine will still be off-limits.

Also, when in NM you are restricted to carrying only one concealed handgun at a time. No BUGs allowed.

There is no "duty to notify" in NM, because car carry is already legal without a license; they consider your car an extension of your home.

Thanks, I thought I heard that was happening. Although I couldn't find the references in a quick search before I posted. another thing about New Mexico is that you can deholster yourself on a long drive and set the gun on the drivers seat or console it doesn't need to be hid away while you are driving. Its an open carry state,

Well, good grief. Why even bother with getting a license there? If you can already carry in your car, but can't take it into a restaurant with a license. Did they forget about the Luby's and McDonald's massacres? Oh, wait...you can't buy beer in those. I guess that type of thing can't happen where alcohol is sold.

New Mexico is certainly not the only state with that restriction. Many states start out that way, then they see the light and change it.

The restriction on carry in convenience stores, Wal Mart, etc., was the real problem there, and they just fixed that one.
