Carrying concealed ?

Hello, newbie here.

I have had this question on my mind ever since OC was passed into law. Under the conceal carry law, it was supposed to be undetectable that a CHL holder (which I am) was carrying a firearm, i.e. It had to effectively be hidden. With OC, does the firearm(s) still have to be hidden if I choose to carry concealed instead of OC? I am thinking I do not have to be concerned about my firearm(s) being undetectable, unless carrying in a business with a legal 30.07 sign, but I may very well be wrong.

Please do not blast me if the answer should be obvious. I figure this is the best resource for answers to questions such as this.

Thanks in advance.

The best way to answer your question is to point you to this thread http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=79978

Charles speaks up often and points out that it has never been a requirement for your pistol to be "undetectable".

The easiest way to keep CC and OC separated is this....

To INTENTIONALLY expose your gun, which is now allowed, the gun, while exposed, must be holstered in a belt or shoulder holster.

If you want to conceal carry the gun it may be carried in any CONCEALED manner. If, during concealed carry the gun becomes UNINTENTIONALLY displayed you have not committed an offense. If you INTENTIONALLY display the gun and, while openly displayed, the gun is not in a belt or shoulder holster, you commit an offense.

Excellent explanation Tex. Thank You.

I will always be carrying my firearms holstered, so it sounds like I won't have to be concerned, from a legal standpoint, about some anti 2nd amendment yahoo reporting me for possibly seeing the outline of my holster.

This is a great site, with a wealth of information and knowledgable people. Happy I found it.

We talk about printing all the time, but it's mostly academic conversion.

As for "indiscernable" that term isn't in Texas law, although I seem to remember encountering it in ccw law in some other state during my research. Here it's not an issue.

I and several friends have engaged in what i call "conspicuous concealed carry" on many occasions before or after shooting matches. It's hard not to spot 15 people wearing shooting jerseys, tactical vests, and Glock/Baretta/Smith & Wesson hats and think that the whole group isn't armed. These events have been uneventful.

With very few exceptions, the only folks who will notice a concealed pistol are either leo or ccw, and will have enough tact not to make an issue.

Use good judgment and you're fine. There's a huge difference in practical terms between you seeing my gun and my showing you my gun. If my coat flips open when i get my wallet that's one thing, if i take off my coat it's another, at least in terms of VIOLATION of 30.07.
