If you owe the IRS at least $50k in back taxes including penalties & interest, they can cancel you passport. No due process & no innocent until proven guilty. The IRS never makes a mistake and has no political objective. This passed with the Republicans in charge of Congress. There is no party in DC looking out for your rights. As soon as the Republicans don't need your vote, you can kiss what freedoms we have left goodbye.

How much you want to bet that federal employees and IRS workers still get to keep their passports even with delinquent taxes?

This is the tyranny our forefathers wrote about.

You/the article are not entirely correct. They won't revoke your passport because you simply owe $50k. You must have a levy assessed against you. It takes many, many months of a taxpayer blatantly ignoring IRS letters and phone calls for them to assess a levy against you (like close to a year of ignoring the IRS). If a taxpayer responds to IRS letter and tries to work out a payment plan or clear up the issue, they will not assess a levy 99% of the time.

The IRS monitors their employees' tax return status. If they don't file on time, or are delinquent on their Federal Taxes, their employment is terminated. It's one of the conditions of employment.

The national GOP is akin to the Vichy French.

This thread, has made me recall the skunk Timothy Geithner, treasury secretary, who owed thousands in back taxes barely lifting a media eyebrow...

Yep.

I actually posted this story a few months ago.

I think it's highly likely it depends on the particular employee....not any law or policy.

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-i ... story.html
The IRS handed out a total of nearly $1.1 million in bonuses in a 27-month period to more than 1,146 employees who had been disciplined for failing to pay taxes, according to an inspector general's report.
This isn't the first time the IRS has had problems with making payments to workers who owe taxes. An inspector general's report in August found that about 5% of the agency's contract employees owed a total of nearly $5.4 million in back taxes.
The key here is at the end of the article:
A 1998 law requires the IRS to fire employees for certain intentional offenses, including failing to file tax returns on time or understating how much they owe. But if the offenses are not determined to be intentional, they can simply face disciplinary action.
The law is a sham...if they "forget" to pay their taxes they get a pass, and sometimes a bonus.

Really?

Ever heard of that happening? It would be gratifying if true, but seems most unlikely.

I have a recollection of a story about the hundreds of millions in taxes owed by IRS employees who were still receiving bonuses. Check out this story on USATODAY.com: http://usat.ly/1nvDsRP Just one of dozens such stories.
WASHINGTON — Federal employees owe a total of $3.3 billion in back taxes to the federal government, according to Internal Revenue Service data released Thursday.
